Abstract

Abstract The influence of the atom’s spatial degrees of freedom and the purity of the initial state on the dynamics of Bell non-locality, entanglement, geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD) and quantum discord in a double Jaynes–Cummings model are investigated. We study the above four quantum correlations for an initial Werner-like state between the electronic states of the two atoms and between the two cavities respectively and find that all these quantum correlations are sensitive to the wave packet width and the purity of the initial state. For Bell non-locality, we find the phenomenon of sudden death and sudden birth, whereas the other three quantum correlations decay to zero asymptotically. We find that both the wave packet width and the purity of the initial state affect the GMQD and quantum discord in a similar way and we also notice that GMQD and quantum discord always exist, except where the purity of the initial state is zero, while Bell non-locality and entanglement can occur only when the purity meets certain conditions.

Quantum correlations between two non-interacting atoms under the influence of a thermal environment

Yao-Hua Hu, Junqiang Wang

By considering a double Jaynes—Cummings model, we investigate the dynamics of quantum correlations, such as the quantum discord and the entanglement, for two atoms in their respective noisy environments, and study the effect of the purity and the cavity temperature on the quantum correlations. The results show that the entanglement suffers sudden death and revival, however the quantum discord can still reveal the quantum correlations between the two atoms in the region where the entanglement is zero. Moreover, when the temperature of each cavity is high the entanglement dies out in a short time, but the quantum discord still survives for quite a long time. It means that the quantum discord is more resistant to environmental disturbance than the entanglement at higher temperatures.

Geometric quantum discord of a Jaynes–Cummings atom and an isolated atom

Wen-Chao Qiang, Lei Zhang, Huaping Zhang

Abstract We studied the geometric quantum discord of a quantum system consisting of a Jaynes–Cummings (JC) atom, a cavity and an isolated atom. The analytical expressions of the geometric quantum discord for two atoms, every atom with a cavity and the total system were obtained. We showed that the geometric quantum discord is not always zero when the entanglement falls to zero for a two-atom subsystem; the geometric measurement of the quantum discord of the total system developed periodically with a single frequency if the initial two-atom state was not entangled, otherwise, it oscillated with two or four frequencies according to whether the cavity was initially empty or not, respectively.

Sudden death and sudden birth of atomic entanglement in double Jaynes-Cummings model composed of two coupled cavities

YU Zhong-Quan, Chen Fa-Hua, Chenglin Liu

The atomic entanglement dynamics is studied in the double Jaynes-Cummings model composed of two coupled cavities.Effect of the cavity-cavity coupling constant A and the atomic initial states on entanglement sudden death(ESD) and entanglement sudden birth(ESB) is analysed.By studying the atomic concurrence,it was shown that when the atomic initial states are the first kind Bell-like states,ESD and ESB doesn't appear, coupling of the cavities can increase the atomic entanglement and entanglement occurs even the initial states are disentangled. When the atomic initial states are the second kind Bell-like states, the time intervals between the ESD and ESB,and whether the ESD occurs or not are controlled by the coupling constant A.The atomic entanglement can't be produced by the coupling between the cavities when the atomic initial states are disentangled and in the second kind Bell-like states.

The dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord of two atoms in coupled cavities

Qing-Xia Mu, Ye-Qi Zhang, Jie Song

We investigate the dynamics of quantum correlations such as entanglement and quantum discord between two noninteracting atoms, each of which is trapped inside one of two coupled cavities. We find that the cavity decay can induce both entanglement and quantum discord between the two atoms when they are initially prepared in doubly excited state. The result shows the sudden death and sudden birth of entanglement and robustness of the quantum discord to sudden death. It is also found that the doubly excited state is responsible for the sudden death of entanglement. Moreover, the sudden death of entanglement can be controlled by the intercavity hopping rate.

Pairwise correlations via quantum discord and its geometric measure in a four-qubit spin chain

Abdel‐Baset A. Mohamed

The dynamic of pairwise correlations, including quantum entanglement (QE) and discord (QD) with geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD), are shown in the four-qubit Heisenberg XX spin chain. The results show that the effect of the entanglement degree of the initial state on the pairwise correlations is stronger for alternate qubits than it is for nearest-neighbor qubits. This parameter results in sudden death for QE, but it cannot do so for QD and GMQD. With different values for this entanglement parameter of the initial state, QD and GMQD differ and are sensitive for any change in this parameter. It is found that GMQD is more robust than both QD and QE to describe correlations with nonzero values, which offers a valuable resource for quantum computation.

Dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord in the Tavis–Cummings model

Juliana Restrepo, Boris A. Rodríguez

Abstract We revisit the problem of the dynamics of quantum correlations in the Tavis–Cummings model. Our results show that the dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord are far from being trivial or intuitive. We find states with the same entanglement but different discord and states where the two quantifiers give opposite information about correlations at a certain time. We furthermore show that many of the dynamical features of quantum discord attributed to dissipation are already present in the exact framework and are due to the characteristic quantum nonlinearity of the model and to the choice of initial conditions. Through a comprehensive analysis of pure and mixed initial conditions, we find a fascinating range of phenomena that can be used for experimental purposes. We propose an experiment called quantum discord gates where for a given pure initial condition discord is zero or non-zero depending on the number of photons in the cavity. Given the marginal character of states with zero discord this result is not only completely counterintuitive but is also useful as a way to count photons.
