In the continuous space and time limit, we show that the probability density to find the quantum random walk (QRW) driven by the Hadamard "coin" solves a hyperbolic evolution equation similar to the one obtained for a random two-velocity evolution with spatially inhomogeneous transition rates between the velocity states. In spite of the presence of a nonlinear drift term, it is remarkable that the QRW position can easily be described in simple analytical terms. This allows us to derive the quadratic time dependence of the variance typical for the QRW.
As a unitary quantum walk with infinitely many internal degrees of freedom, the quantum walk in terms of quantum Bernoulli noise (recently introduced by Wang and Ye) shows a rather classical asymptotic behavior, which is quite different from the case of the usual quantum walks with a finite number of internal degrees of freedom. In this paper, we further examine the structure of the walk. By using the Fourier transform on the state space of the walk, we obtain a formula that links the moments of the walk’s probability distributions directly with annihilation and creation operators on Bernoulli functionals. We also prove some other results on the structure of the walk. Finally, as an application of these results, we establish a quantum central limit theorem for the annihilation and creation operators themselves.
In this paper, we consider limit probability distributions of the quantum walk recently introduced by Wang and Ye (C.S. Wang and X.J. Ye, Quantum walk in terms of quantum Bernoulli noises, Quantum Inf. Process. 15 (2016), no. 5, 1897-1908). We first establish several technical theorems, which themselves are also interesting. Then, by using these theorems, we prove that, for a wide range of choices of the initial state, the above-mentioned quantum walk has a limit probability distribution of standard Gauss type, which actually gives a new limit theorem for the walk.
In this paper, we present a quantum Bernoulli noises approach to quantum walks on hypercubes. We first obtain an alternative description of a general hypercube, and then, based on the alternative description, we find that the operators ∂k*+∂k behave actually as the shift operators, where ∂k and ∂k* are the annihilation and creation operators acting on Bernoulli functionals, respectively. With the above-mentioned operators as the shift operators on the position space, we introduce a discrete-time quantum walk model on a general hypercube and obtain an explicit formula for calculating its probability distribution at any time. We also establish two limit theorems showing that the averaged probability distribution of the walk even converges to the uniform probability distribution. Finally, we show that the walk produces the uniform measure as its stationary measure on the hypercube provided its initial state satisfies some mild conditions. Some other results are also proven.
The behavior of one-dimensional quantum random walks is strikingly different from that of classical ones. However, when decoherence is involved, the limiting distributions take on many classical features over time. In this paper, we study the decoherence on both position and ``coin'' spaces of the particle. We propose an analytical approach to investigate these phenomena and obtain the generating functions which encode all the features of these walks. Specifically, from these generating functions, we find exact analytic expressions of several moments for the time and noise dependence of position. Moreover, the limiting position distributions of decoherent quantum random walks are shown to be Gaussian in an analytical manner. These results explicitly describe the relationship between the system and the level of decoherence.
As a discrete-time quantum walk model on the one-dimensional integer lattice Z , the quantum walk recently constructed by Wang and Ye [Caishi Wang and Xiaojuan Ye, Quantum walk in terms of quantum Bernoulli noises, Quantum Information Processing 15 (2016), 1897–1908] exhibits quite different features. In this paper, we extend this walk to a higher dimensional case. More precisely, for a general positive integer d ≥ 2 , by using quantum Bernoulli noises we introduce a model of discrete-time quantum walk on the d-dimensional integer lattice Z d , which we call the d-dimensional QBN walk. The d-dimensional QBN walk shares the same coin space with the quantum walk constructed by Wang and Ye, although it is a higher dimensional extension of the latter. Moreover we prove that, for a range of choices of its initial state, the d-dimensional QBN walk has a limit probability distribution of d-dimensional standard Gauss type, which is in sharp contrast with the case of the usual higher dimensional quantum walks. Some other results are also obtained.
