From Classical to Quantum Nonlinear Photonic Mixers on Silicon Microchips (Project Report 1201308-Y4)

Shayan Mookherjee

The main goal of this NSF-funded project [1201308 - Year 4] is to develop an integrated photonics devices based on silicon photonics which can be used for compact and efficient nonlinear classical and quantum photonics. We demonstrated tunable photon-pair generation at room temperature from a high-Q Si microring resonator and coupled-resonator optical waveguide devices.

José A. Jaramillo-Villegas, Poolad Imany, Ogaga D. Odele +6 more

We report a comb-like frequency-bin entangled photon pair source with a high coincidence to accidental ratio in a silicon nitride microring resonator. We measured a Schmidt number of 4.0, thus verifying high degree of time-frequency entanglement.

Entanglement measurement of a coupled silicon microring photon pair source

Ranjeet Kumar, Marc Savanier, Jun Rong Ong +1 more

Using two-photon (Franson) interferometry, we measure the entanglement of photon pairs generated from an optically-pumped silicon photonic device consisting of a few coupled microring resonators. The pair-source chip operates at room temperature, and the InGaAs single-photon avalanche detectors (SPADs) are thermo-electrically cooled to 234K. Such a device can be integrated with other components for practical entangled photon-pair generation at telecommunications wavelengths.
