Abstract

Recently, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has emerged as a potential solution for improving energy efficiency. However, it is also unavoidable to be eavesdropped on by security threats. In this paper, we investigate the secure transmission of the SWIPT system where a user is equipped with power-splitting (PS) scheme while an eavesdropper (Eve) tries to listen to the private information of the transmitter-user communication link. Our objective is to optimize the system secrecy rate while satisfying the requirements on energy harvesting (EH) at the user and transmit power at the transmitter. For solving the optimization problem, we utilize the feasible point pursuit (FPP) technique and the successive convex approximation (SCA) iterative-based algorithm. Although this algorithm can effectively solve our non-convex problem, it is often quite complex and time-consuming due to the many mathematical transformations and the need for the number of iterations to be converged to the optimal solutions. Therefore, we also consider the deep learning (DL)-based approach which helps the optimization problem to achieve an efficient solution in terms of the computation time. The simulation results validate the proposed scheme significantly improve the system secrecy rate. Moreover, the DL scheme achieved similar performance to the optimization algorithm, but with low computation time.

Joint Optimization of AN-Aided Transmission and Power Splitting for MISO Secure Communications With SWIPT

Xin Zhao, Jian Xiao, Quanzhong Li +2 more

For simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), secure communication is an important issue. In this letter, we consider a wireless multiple-input-single-output secure communication system with SWIPT overheard by multiple multi-antenna eavesdroppers. In the system, a transmitter employs artificial noise (AN)-aided transmission and a legitimate receiver employs power splitting (PS) to harvest energy. Our objective is to jointly design AN-aided transmission and PS scheme which maximizes achievable secrecy rate under transmit power constraint and energy harvesting constraint. We propose to include an equality constraint to convert the constraint on information rate from transmitter to eavesdroppers into linear matrix inequalities. Replacing the equality constraint with a convex constraint and a concave constraint, we propose to employ constrained concave convex procedure based algorithm to find a local optimum of the problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed joint optimization of AN-aided transmission and PS scheme outperforms the non-AN-aided one.

Secure beamforming design of SWIPT relay network with multiple users and eavesdroppers

Lu He, Taoshen Li, Baber +4 more

Abstract This paper studies the secure beamforming design for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in a amplify-and-forward (AF) relay networks with multiple users and eavesdroppers. Each user node adopts the power splitting (PS) scheme to decode information and harvest energy simultaneously. Our objective is to minimize the total relay transmit power under the constraints of secure transmission rate and energy harvesting requirements by jointly optimizing the beamforming matrix, artificial noise covariance matrix and PS ratios. For this non-convex problem, we propose a two-stage optimization approach to convert the original problem into two sub-problems. The first subproblem uses semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique to transform the original problem into a convex problem, and then finds the optimal solution of the second subproblem through k-dimensional exhaustive search algorithm. Furthermore, we also propose a low complexity suboptimal solution scheme based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme saves transmitting power and achieves better performance than other schemes.

Secrecy Energy Efficiency in SWIPT Networks with Two-Layer Power-Splitting Receiver

Yang Lu, Ke Xiong, Jingxian Liu +3 more

This paper investigates the energy efficiency (EE) for a MISO simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system where one transmitter intends to transmit information and energy to its legitimate power-splitting (PS) receivers while restricting the information leakage to an eavesdropper (Eve). To guarantee secure transmission, artificial noise (AN) is embedded into the transmit signals. The non-linear energy harvest (EH) model is adopted and a novel two-layer PS receiver architecture is proposed. Our goal is to maximize the system global secrecy EE (GSEE) by optimizing the transmit beamforming vectors, the AN covariance matrix and two-layer PS ratios under the EH requirement and the total available power constraints. To solve the non-convex optimization problem, the second-layer PS ratios are firstly optimized and then, an iterative solution framework is presented to jointly optimize the transmit beamforming vectors, the AN covariance matrix and the first-layer PS ratios. Simulation results demonstrate the validity and efficiency of our proposed solution approach. It is shown that the system GSEE has a saturation point and after passing the saturation point, it cannot be improved by increasing the transmit power anymore. It is also observed that compared with traditional PS receiver architecture, the proposed two-layer PS receiver architecture is able to achieve higher EH efficiency.

Secure transmission scheme in MIMO communication systems with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer

Shaohang Wang, Baoyun Wang

In this paper, we study the secure transmission scheme in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), in which both power splitting (PS) receiver and artificial noise (AN) are taken into account. We aim to maximize the achievable secrecy rate at the desired receiver by jointly designing precoding matrix, AN covariance matrix and PS ratio at the desired receiver, under the total transmit power constraint and the minimum energy harvesting constraints at all the receivers. The formulated optimization problem is nonconvex and hard to tackle. Then, by transforming this problem into a canonical DC (difference of convex function) programming, we propose an iterative method to solve this problem, and analyze the convergence of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results are provided to show the efficiency of our proposed scheme.

Robust Secure Beamforming for Multi-Receiver Multi-Eavesdropper MIMO SWIPT Systems

Yao Yu, Shumei Liu, Weina Yuan +3 more

In this paper, we consider a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink communication system with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). In particular, we focus on a realistic and efficient multi-receiver multi-eavesdropper MIMO SWIPT system, in which the channel state information (CSI) of each legitimate receiver and energy receiver (i.e., potential eavesdropper) is partially known to the transmitter. Based on this, we propose a robust artificial noise (AN)-aided secure transmission scheme for the system, where the channel uncertainties are modeled by the worst-case model. In the proposed scheme, we aim to maximize the worst-case achievable secrecy rate under the transmit power constraint and the energy harvesting (EH) constraint, by jointly optimizing the transmit precoding matrix and the AN covariance matrix. We utilize the S-Procedure and Taylor series approximation to transform the non-convex problem. Then, we apply the interior point method to tackle the transformed convex problem, obtaining the approximate optimal matrices and the corresponding maximum worst-case secrecy rate. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme achieves significant performance improvements in terms of convergence and the worst-case achievable secrecy rate.

Power Splitting-Based SWIPT Systems With Full-Duplex Jamming

Rui Ma, Haowei Wu, Jinglan Ou +2 more

The simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has recently attracted much attention since both information and energy are integrated within radio frequency signals, which is considered to be one of the most important technologies for future networks. However, security becomes one of the most critical issues in SWIPT networks due to its broadcasting features over wireless media and the transferring requirements for strong signal strength. To improve the security of SWIPT networks, in this paper, a SWIPT system enabled by full-duplex (FD) jamming is proposed, where an FD energy-limited receiver with the power splitting (PS) structure, powered by a transmitter, generates jamming signals. Both linear and nonlinear energy harvesting (EH) models are considered. To evaluate the secrecy throughput (ST) of the system, we derive the closed-form connection outage probability and secrecy outage probability for the proposed PS-based scheme in the delay-constrained transmission (DCT) mode. The ST is maximized by optimizing the PS ratio based on the asymptotic cases of the high signal-to-noise ratio as well as the perfect self-interference cancellation (SIC). Besides, the exact integral forms of the ergodic secrecy capacity and their closed-form lower bounds are presented for both the PS-based and the time switching (TS)-based schemes in the delay-tolerant transmission (DTT) mode. Simulation results suggest that the PS-based scheme outperforms the TS-based scheme for the DTT mode. For the DCT mode, the PS-based scheme can achieve better performance than the TS-based scheme only in low target communication rate, small PS/TS ratio, high transmit power, and weak path loss. Meanwhile, given a tolerable amount of SIC, the ST obtained in the linear EH model is higher than that achieved in the nonlinear EH model.
