Strong long-range coupling between distant spin qubits is crucial for solid-state quantum information processing. However, achieving such a strong spin-spin coupling remains a well-known challenge. To this end, we propose an efficient method to realize a strong coupling between two distant spins via the Kerr effect of the magnons in a yttrium-iron-garnet sphere. By applying a strong microwave field on the magnon, the Kerr effect of the magnon is converted to its squeezing effect charaterized by the squeezing parameter. Thus, the coupling betweem the spins and the squeezed-magnon can be exponentially enhanced, which in turn allows the spin-magnon distance greatly improved from nanometer to micrometer. By considering the virtual excitation of the squeezd-magnon in the dispersive regime, strong spin-spin coupling mediated by the squeezed-magnon can be achieved. As applications, remote quantum state transfer, nonlocal two-qubit iSWAP gate with high fidelity and remote quantum charger-battery device are investigated. Our proposal provides a potential platform to perform distant quantum information tasks and build the thermodynamic device with weakly coupled spin-magnon systems.

Strong coupling between single qubits is crucial for quantum information science and quantum computation. However, it is still challenged, especially for single solid-state qubit. Here, we propose a hybrid quantum system, consisting of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) resonator weakly coupled to a single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) spin in diamond and an yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) nanosphere holding Kerr magnons, to realize strong long-distance spin-spin coupling. With a strong driving field on magnons, the Kerr effect can squeeze magnons, and thus the coupling between the CPW resonator and the squeezed magnons is exponentially enhanced, which produces two cavity-magnon polaritons, i.e., the high-frequency polariton (HP) and the low-frequency polariton (LP). When the enhanced cavity-magnon coupling approaches the critical value (i.e., the frequency of the LP becomes zero), the spin is fully decoupled from the HP, while the coupling between the spin and the LP is significantly improved. In the dispersive regime, a strong spin-spin coupling mediated by the LP is achieved with accessible parameters. Our proposal indicates that the critical cavity-magnon polariton is a potential interface to realize strong spin-spin coupling and manipulates remote solid spins.

Squeezed states, crucial for quantum metrology and emerging quantum technologies, have been demonstrated in various platforms, but quantum squeezing of magnons in macroscopic spin systems remains elusive. Here we report the experimental observation of quantum-level magnon squeezing in a millimeter-scale yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere. By engineering a strong dispersive magnon-superconducting qubit coupling via a microwave cavity, we implement a significant self-Kerr nonlinearity to generate squeezed magnon states with their mean magnon number less than one. Harnessing a magnon-assisted Raman process, we perform Wigner tomography, revealing quadrature variances of ∼0.8 (∼1.0~dB squeezing) relative to the vacuum. These results lay the groundwork for quantum nonlinear magnonics and promise potential applications in quantum metrology.
Strong long-distance spin-magnon coupling is essential for solid-state quantum information processing and single-qubit manipulation. Here, we propose an approach to realize strong spin-magnon coupling in a hybrid optomechanical cavity-spin-magnon system, where the optomechanical system, consisting of two cavities coupled to a common high-frequency mechanical resonator, acts as quantum interface. By eliminating the mechanical mode, position-position coupling and two-mode squeezing of two cavities are induced. In the squeezing representation, the spin-photon, magnon-photon, and photon-photon coupling strengths are exponentially amplified, thus lower- and upper-branch polaritons (LBP and UBP) are generated by strongly coupled squeezed modes of two cavities. Utilizing the critical property of the LBP, the coupling between the spin qubit (magnon) and LBP is greatly enhanced, while the coupling between the spin qubit (magnon) and UBP is fully suppressed. In the dispersive regime, strong and tunable spin-magnon coupling is induced by the virtual LBP, allowing quantum state exchange between them. Our proposal provides a promising platform to construct magnon-based hybrid systems and realize solid-state quantum information processing with optomechanical interfaces.
