Abstract

Abstract Reversible gate has been one of the emerging research areas that ensure continual process of innovation trends that explore and utilizes the resources. Due to the increasing power consumption of electronic circuits, it has been observed that quantum computing is one of its latest applications. This technology can be utilized by reducing the energy consumption by preserving the bits of information that are still useful. A photon has zero rest mass, while an electron has a nonzero rest mass. These characteristics inspired the researchers to develop an all-optical Fredkin gate. The proposed gate design overcomes the shortcomings of conventional Fredkin gates and provides better performance.

Performance evaluation of reversible logic gates

Umesh Kumar, Lavisha Sahu, Uma Kant Sharma

It has been realized that quantum computing is one of the latest technologies using reversible logic. It is observed that increasing growth of transistor density, power consumption will reach their limits in conventional technologies. In conventional Circuits during the logic operations bits of information is erased resulting dissipation of energy in significant amount. Thus, if Circuits are designed so that information bits can be preserved, the power use can be reduced. In case of reversible logic computation, the information bits are not lost. We can use reversible logic technology for minimizing the power consumption, heat dissipation, increasing speed etc. This paper describes various logic gates based on reversible logic like Toffoli, Peres, Fredkin, and Feynman etc. A comparative between classical and quantum logic gates is also given on various parameters along with limitations of conventional computing.

Low power quantum gates for the implementation of reversible memory elements using quantum dot cellular automata

Samyukta A Hassan, Preeta Sharan

Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can be conserved. The processors of present day computers are designed using conventional logic circuits which are irreversible in nature. They suffer from loss of information during computation, leading to energy dissipation in the form of heat affecting the performance and life of the circuits. These limitations of conventional logic circuits can be overcome by the reversible logic circuits designed using quantum gates, the essential elements for quantum computing. Quantum computing is an emerging area of research which finds application in optical computing, DNA computing, cryptography, low power CMOS design, digital signal processing and nanotechnology.

Fredkin-Enabled Transformation-Based Reversible Logic Synthesis

Mathias Soeken, Anupam Chattopadhyay

Reversible computation is gaining increasing relevance in the context of several post-CMOS technologies, the most prominent of those being quantum computing. The problem of implementing a given Boolean function using a set of elementary reversible logic gates is known as reversible logic synthesis. Due to the presumed hardness of the reversible circuit synthesis problem, different heuristics have been proposed in the literature to reduce quantum cost (QC), gate count, and logical depth without using ancillary lines. Interestingly, none of these heuristics systematically utilize Fredkin gates. In this paper, we demonstrate, both theoretically and empirically, that accommodating Fredkin gates significantly improves the performance of reversible circuits.

Design of logic gates using reversible gates with reduced quantum cost

S.Saniya Samrin, Rachamma Patil, Sumangala Itagi +2 more

Reversible logic is also called information lossless logic, since the information embedded in the circuits can be recovered, if lost. Research carried out by Landauer and Bennett proved that the energy dissipation would not occur if computation is made reversible. With this aim a number of reversible gates were designed and invented. As examples like- the Fredkin gate, the Toffoli gate, the Peres gate, and the Feynman gate. Reversible logic has extensive applications and is considered as one of the futuristic technologies. But the logic circuit designing is based on logic gates, which are non-reversible. This paper presents design of logic gates using reversible gates. These logic gates help in future implementation of higher end circuits. In this paper an attempt is made to design logic gates using reversible gates and some of the higher end circuits are also designed such as Binary-to-Grey, grey-to-Binary, Adder, Subtractor etc.

A review on reversible logic gates

Bahijja Yahaya Galadima, Garba Shehu Musa Galadanci, Tijjani Abdulrazak +1 more

In recent years, reversible logic circuits have applications in the emerging field of digital signal processing, optical information processing, quantum computing and nano technology. Reversibility plays an important role when computations with minimal energy dissipation are considered. The main purpose of designing reversible logic is to decrease the number of reversible gates, garbage outputs, constant inputs, quantum cost, area, power, delay and hardware complexity of the reversible circuits. This paper reveals a comparative review on various reversible logic gates. This paper provides some reversible logic gates, which can be used in designing more complex systems having reversible circuits and can execute more complicated operations using quantum computers. Future digital technology will use reversible logic gates in order to reduce the power consumption and propagation delay as it effectively provides negligible loss of information in the circuit. All-optical frequency-encoded Toffoli gate

Saumya Srivastava, Upendra Chaurasiya, Pradeep Kumar Tiwari +2 more

Abstract The construction of an all-optical frequency-encoded Toffoli gate employing a reflecting semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is proposed in this article. By establishing fields such as quantum computing, optical quantum computing, quantum-dot cellular automata, and superconducting flux logic family, quantum gates have been proved to perform reliably in the present day. A nonzero-mass electron, on the other hand, moves far slower than a quantum particle with zero rest mass, such as a photon. Photons can also be utilized to store data while being sent. These photon qualities have motivated researchers to create quantum gates in the all-optical domain based on them. The RSOA-based implementation of the Toffoli gate gives a significant improvement in the case of high speed, low power, and fast switching time. MATLAB Simulink (R2018a) software is used to simulate the devised design. The theoretical prediction is satisfied by the simulation results.
