Abstract

We exploit the time and frequency modes generated on integrated quantum platforms for the practical generation and coherent processing of complex photon states (two-level time-entangled photons, d-level frequency-entangled photon pairs, and d-level cluster states), by using only standard silicon-based chips and fiber telecommunications components.

On-chip Generation, Coherent Control and Processing of Complex Entangled Photon States

We demonstrate the on-chip generation of time-bin entangled two- and multi-photon qubit states, as well as high-dimensional frequency-entangled photon pairs. Combining time and frequency entanglement, we generate high-dimensional optical cluster states and implement proof-of-concept high-dimensional one-way quantum computing. This, by using standard, fiber-based telecommunication components.

Generation and coherent manipulation of complex quantum states based on integrated frequency combs

Stefania Sciara, Michael Kues, Christian Reimer +11 more

The investigation and use of integrated frequency comb sources (i.e. featured by equally-spaced discrete spectral modes) have recently provided a unique framework to address the challenges of generation and coherent manipulation of complex quantum states in on-chip devices. We exploit integrated frequency combs for generating entangled photon pairs, as well as multi-photon states, and high-dimensional (D-level, i.e. quDit) entangled photons. In particular, we manage to coherently manipulate such complex quantum systems by using telecommunications components (standard fiber telecom).

Telecom-compatible, on-chip generation and processing of complex photon states in time and frequency

Mario Chemnitz, Hao Yu, Stefania Sciara +13 more

We review our work on implementing integrated QFC sources based on microring resonators for on-chip generation of two- and multi-photon time-bin entangled states, d-level frequency-entangled photon pairs, and multipartite d-level cluster states. We also present our recent progress on telecom-compatible, scalable, time-entangled two-photon qubits using on-chip Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI) in combination with spiral waveguides. Both approaches are highly cost-effective, efficient, and practical, since we coherently manipulate the time and frequency modes through standard fiber-linked components that are compatible with off-the-shelf telecommunications infrastructures. Our work paves the way for robust sources and processors of complex photon states for future quantum technologies.
