Finite-temperature decoherence of spin states in a {Cu3} single molecular magnet

Xiang Hao, Xiaoqun Wang, Chen Liu +1 more

We investigate the quantum evolution of spin states of a single molecular magnet in a local electric field. The decoherence of a $\texttt{\{}\emph{Cu}_3\texttt{\}}$ single molecular magnet weakly coupled to a thermal bosonic environment can be analyzed by the spin-boson model. Using the finite-temperature time-convolutionless quantum master equation, we obtain the analytical expression of the reduced density matrix of the system in the secular approximation. The suppressed and revived dynamical behavior of the spin states are presented by the oscillation of the chirality spin polarization on the time scale of the correlation time of the environment. The quantum decoherence can be effectively restrained with the help of the manipulation of local electric field and the environment spectral density function. Under the influence of the dissipation, the pointer states measured by the von Neumann entropy are calculated to manifest the entanglement property of the system-environment model.

Dependence of the recoherence times and recoherence increments on the state of phonon bath in a single-qubit dephasing model

V. V. Ignatyuk, Ch. Samorodov

The recoherence times t * and the maximum values of the recoherence increments γ extr are studied as functions of the bath parameters for a single qubit dephasing model, prepared initially by a special kind of the nonselective measurements. The recoherence-decoherence events (RDE), occurring at the initial stage of the system evolution, are found to be both similar and different from the system dynamics at large times. For instance, in contrast to the RDE observed on large timescales, the sub-Ohmic and Ohmic coupling regimes are more favorable for the short-time recoherence than the super-Ohmic one. On the other hand, the short-time behavior of the recoherence and the long-time dynamics of the decoherence are closely related: The domain of the ohmicity indexes, where the decoherence changes its type (from the complete to incomplete one), is, simultaneously, that of the weakest recoherence. The obtained results give us some hints about the basic characteristics of the environment, which might provide the most optimal values of t * and γ extr in some sense.

Modelling quantum measurement dynamics: from decoherence to redundancy with site-hopping indistinguishable particles

Katja Schneeweiss, Tom Rivlin, Maximilian P. E. Lock +2 more

In recent years, new theoretical insights into decoherence and quantum measurements have emerged through the study of many-body dynamics in isolated quantum systems. It is now understood that the parameters and energy scales in system-environment interactions decisively affect how readily information spreads from a quantum system into its surroundings during a decoherence event. A popular choice for studying these effects is the framework of quantum Darwinism (QD), but so far few works have applied this to realistic many-body models. Inspired by experimentally-accessible setups, in this work we introduce a simple, flexible, numerically exact many-body model of a system broadcasting information into an environment: a 1D lattice of sites with hopping particles. We show that different choices of parameters lead to the recovery of known scenarios featuring different decoherence and QD effects, such as equilibration, revivals of coherence, and redundancy. In constructing this model we resolve the crucial issue of indistinguishability: we explain how to calculate the entropy of a fraction of the environment when said environment is composed of indistinguishable fermions or bosons (or lattice sites containing them). We then show that particle statistics can make a notable difference to the QD properties of the setup, with fermionic environments sometimes achieving redundancy much more readily than bosonic or site-based ones. Our work opens the door to much closer alignment between theoretical models and experimental tests of the dynamics of quantum measurements and the quantum-to-classical transition.
