Abstract

In this paper the simplifying possibility of the scheme of the optical lattice clocks using a single source of the slowing laser radiation for the two installations of the 87 Sr isotope optical clocks is considered. We designed the scheme where the correction of the constant component of the partial frequency-detuning magnetic field for the each Zeeman slower is achieved. Calculations of the resonance curve of the longitudinal magnetic field of the slower field are given with the introduction of the additional magnetic component into the calculation for the additional detuning and, at the same time, the frequency detuning of the magnetic field profile by an additional coil. The field of the additional coil, which is included into Zeeman slower, does not change the resonance profile of the magnetic field. The possibility of detuning within the width of the cooling transition is shown.

Optimized design of a permanent Zeeman slower for an ytterbium optical lattice clock

Xiaohang Zhang, Xinye Xu

Abstract An optimized design of a permanent Zeeman slower for an ytterbium optical lattice clock is presented. The dependences of the magnetic field distributions on the detuning and intensity of the cooling laser are studied. The length and corresponding magnetic field distribution of the slower are analyzed by varying the efficiency parameter and saturation parameter of the cooling laser. Considering the slowing efficiency and the loading rate of the magneto-optical trap, the optimum length of the slower is about 15 cm, and its width is about 10 cm in our case. Finally, an adjustable slower with a slowing efficiency of 15.5% is proposed.

Development of adjustable permanent magnet Zeeman slowers for optical lattice clocks

Xiaohang Zhang, Xinye Xu

We develop a permanent-magnet Zeeman slower with adjustable magnets along the longitudinal and radial directions. Produced by four arrays of cylindrical magnets, the longitudinal magnetic field in the slower is tunable if relevant parameters vary, for example, laser detuning or intensity. The proposed Zeeman slower can be reconfigured for Sr atoms. Additionally, we demonstrate that the residual magnetic field produced by the permanent magnets in the magneto-optical trap region can be as small as 0.5 Gs.

Zeeman slowing atoms using the magnetic field from a magneto-optical trap

Wen Yan, Yuan Yao, Yuxin Sun +3 more

We study a Zeeman slower using the magnetic field generated by a pair of coils for a magneto-optical trap. The efficiency of the Zeeman slower is shown to be dependent on the intensity and frequency detuning of the laser light for slowing the atoms. With the help of numerical analysis, optimal experimental parameters are explored. Experimentally, the optimal frequency detuning and intensity of the slowing beam are explored, and 4 × 107 ytterbium atoms are trapped in the magneto-optical trap.

Designing a permanent Zeeman slower for Sr optical clock

Yuli Xie

Transverse Zeeman slower composed of an array of permanent magnets is investigated for Sr optical clock. We calculated the magnetic field distribution of 88 Sr atoms based on experimental condition, achieving a reduction of the velocity of atoms from 410 m/s to 50 m/s. The atoms flux through the transverse magnetic field was 7.9×105. Such permanent Zeeman slower needs no high currents or water cooling and the spatial distribution of its magnetic field can be adjusted. Another advantage of this Zeeman slower is its small size and high reliability. Therefore, a miniature Zeeman slower can be attained.

Shougang Zhang

A magnetic field of the Zeeman slower is designed for 87Sr atom based on Zeeman effect and Doppler cooling theory with the experimental condition.A spindle-shaped coil is manufactured according to the simulated values of the layers, the turns, the current and other parameters. The measured result shows that the longitudinal magnetic field of the manufactured spindle-shaped coil satisfies the requirement of 87Sr optical lattice clock experiment.

Theoretical and Experimental Study of Rising Zeeman Slower Efficiency use compensatory Coils

Hong Chang

We present a Zeeman Slower used for strontium optical clock.Adding compensatory coil can increase slower actual distance and ultimate magnetic field gradient, thus increasing captured atom number in Strontium first cooling stage(blue MOT).Theoretical analysis Zeeman slower constructed in new method can trapping 31.17% more atoms than made by a single set of coil.We measured the velocity distribution of atomic beam use time-of-flight method. The most probable velocity decreased from 380m/s to 43m/s,the width also become narrower.Experiment study show that two coils Zeeman slower can trap 1.81×10688Sr atoms in first cooling stage. While single coil Zeeman slower can trap 1.26×106 atoms in same experimental condition. Therefore adding compensatory coils increase trapping atom number by 30.4%,consistent with the theoretical analysis.
