Abstract

Quantum properties, such as entanglement and coherence, are indispensable resources in various quantum information processing tasks. However, given a quantum state, it is not a simple question to identify whether it is entangled or not. We study the entanglement of quantum systems in arbitrary dimensions using the Bloch representation of density matrix. This approach enables us to consider quantum entanglement geometrically. We first analyze the effect of local Bloch vector on determining whether a quantum state is entangled or separable, and obtain an entanglement criterion related to local Bloch vector, which is stronger than the criterion that only considers the correlation matrix. This criterion is equivalent to the optimized computable cross norm criterion in [14]. Our proof is considered from the perspective of Bloch representation, and there is no need to know the matrix relignment in advance. This criterion also be extended to the problem of the separability of tripartite quantum states. We then combine the local filtering transformation with this entanglement criterion. After applying a suitable local filtering transformation, the quantum state has at most one nonzero Bloch vector, and examples are given to illustrate that the local filtering transformation can help detect some bound states where the original entanglement criterion fails. Moreover, for a finite-dimensional quantum system in which one party is a qubit, we give an analytical form of the combined entanglement criterion.

Separability criteria based on the Bloch representation of density matrices

Juan de Vicente

We study the separability of bipartite quantum systems in arbitrary dimensions using the Bloch representation of their density matrix. This approach enables us to find an alternative characterization of the separability problem, from which we derive a necessary condition and sufficient conditions for separability. For a certain class of states the necessary condition and a sufficient condition turn out to be equivalent, therefore yielding a necessary and sufficient condition. The proofs of the sufficient conditions are constructive, thus providing decompositions in pure product states for the states that satisfy them. We provide examples that show the ability of these conditions to detect entanglement. In particular, the necessary condition is proved to be strong enough to detect bound entangled states.

Entanglement detection beyond the computable cross-norm or realignment criterion

Chengjie Zhang, Yong-Sheng Zhang, Shun Zhang +1 more

Separability problem, to decide whether a given state is entangled or not, is a fundamental problem in quantum information theory. We propose a powerful and computationally simple separability criterion, which allows us to detect the entanglement of many bound entangled states. The criterion is strictly stronger than the criterion based on Bloch representations, the computable cross-norm or realignment criterion and its optimal nonlinear entanglement witnesses. Furthermore, this criterion can be generalized to an analog of permutation separability criteria in the even-partite systems.

On sufficient and necessary criteria of multipartite quantum entanglement

Zhi-Bo Chen, Shao-Ming Fei

Abstract Based on the generalized Bloch representation, we study the separability and entanglement of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum states. Some sufficient and some necessary criteria are presented. For certain states, these criteria together are both sufficient and necessary. Detailed examples show that our criteria are better than some existing ones in identifying separability. Based on these criteria, the largest separable ball around the maximally mixed state for arbitrary multi-qubit systems is found, and it is proved that its radius defined via the l 1-norm of the Bloch vector is the constant 1. Furthermore, the criteria in this paper can be implemented experimentally.

Separability criterion for multipartite quantum states based on the Bloch representation of density matrices

Ali Saif M. Hassan, Pramod S. Joag

We give a new separability criterion, a necessary condition for separability of N-partite quantum states. The criterion is based on the Bloch representation of a N-partite quantum state and makes use of multilinear algebra, in particular, the matrization of tensors. Our criterion applies to arbitrary N-partite quantum states in $\mathcal{H}=\mathcal{H}^{d_1}\otimes \mathcal{H}^{d_2} \otimes \cdots \otimes \mathcal{H}^{d_N}.$ The criterion can test whether a N-partite state is entangled and can be applied to different partitions of the $N$-partite system. We provide examples that show the ability of this criterion to detect entanglement. We show that this criterion can detect bound entangled states. We prove a sufficiency condition for separability of a 3-partite state, straightforwardly generalizable to the case N > 3, under certain condition. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for separability of a class of N-qubit states which includes N-qubit PPT states.

Combo separability criteria and lower bound on concurrence

S. M. Zangi, Jiansheng Wu, Cong‐Feng Qiao

Abstract Detection and quantification of entanglement are extremely important in quantum information theory. We can extract information by using the spectrum or singular values of the density operator. The correlation matrix norm deals with the concept of quantum entanglement in a mathematically natural way. In this work, we use Ky Fan norm of the Bloch matrix to investigate the disentanglement of quantum states. Our separability criterion not only unifies some well-known criteria but also leads to a better lower bound on concurrence. We explain with an example how the entanglement of the given state is missed by existing criteria but can be detected by our criterion. The proposed lower bound on concurrence also has advantages over some investigated bounds.

A Necessary and Sufficient Criterion for the Separability of Quantum State

Junli Li, Cong‐Feng Qiao

Quantum entanglement has been regarded as one of the key physical resources in quantum information sciences. However, the determination of whether a mixed state is entangled or not is generally a hard issue, even for the bipartite system. In this work we propose an operational necessary and sufficient criterion for the separability of an arbitrary bipartite mixed state, by virtue of the multiplicative Horn's problem. The work follows the work initiated by Horodecki et al. and uses the Bloch vector representation introduced to the separability problem by J. De Vicente. In our criterion, a complete and finite set of inequalities to determine the separability of compound system is obtained, which may be viewed as trade-off relations between the quantumness of subsystems. We apply the obtained result to explicit examples, e.g. the separable decomposition of arbitrary dimension Werner state and isotropic state.
