The Optomechanical Response of a Cubic Anharmonic Oscillator

Sumei Huang, Hongmiao Hao, Aixi Chen

The nonlinearity of a mechanical oscillator may lead to the generation of the macroscopic quantum states, which are useful for precision measurement. Measuring the nonlinearity of a mechanical oscillator becomes important in order to effectively assess its performance. In this paper, we study the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in an optomechanical system with a cubic nonlinear movable mirror. In the presence of the nonlinearity of the movable mirror, we show that the intensity of the output probe field exhibits an asymmetric shape with the transparency peak shifted to a frequency lower than the cavity resonance frequency. This shift can be used to measure the nonlinearity strength of the movable mirror. We also show that the mechanical nonlinearity gives rise to the enhancement of the intensity of the second-order upper sideband generation.

Generation of robust tripartite entanglement with a single-cavity optomechanical system

Xihua Yang, Yang Ling, Xuping Shao +1 more

We present a proposal to generate robust tripartite optomechanical entanglement with a single-cavity optomechanical system driven by a single input laser field. The produced stationary tripartite entanglement among two longitudinal cavity modes and a mirror oscillation mode via radiation pressure force exhibits robustness to the variation of the environment temperature when the cavity free spectral range is close to the mechanical oscillation frequency. The present optomechanical system can serve as an alternative intermediary for quantum-state exchange between two microwave (or optical) fields as well as between photons and the macroscopic mechanical oscillator, and may be potentially useful for quantum information processing and quantum networks.

Quadrature-squeezed light and optomechanical entanglement in a dissipative optomechanical system with a mechanical parametric drive

Sumei Huang, Aixi Chen

We propose a scheme for producing the phase squeezing of the output light in a dissipative optomechanical coupling system. This is achieved by applying a degenerate parametric drive on the mechanical oscillator. We also show that this scheme is capable of generating the stationary entanglement between an optical cavity field and a macroscopic mechanical oscillator. The effects of the strength of the mechanical parametric drive, the power of the input laser, the temperature of the environment on the output phase squeezing, and the optomechanical entanglement are investigated. For a temperature of 20 mK, we find that up to 9 dB of the output phase squeezing and the large optomechanical entanglement can be achieved.
