Abstract

Device to Device (D2D) communication is going to be a promising wireless technology for 5G communication and beyond. So the security aspect of the D2D communication system has been the center of research for quite some time. Since Fisher Snedecor ${\mathcal{F}}$ fading channel is widely used to characterize the D2D communication scenarios, in this work, the data transmission security has been analyzed over Fisher Snedecor ${\mathcal{F}}$ fading channel while simultaneous transmission of same data to multiple receiving devices is considered with the appearance of multiple eavesdroppers. Secrecy performance is measured by deriving different closed-form analytical expressions. i.e. secure outage probability for multicasting, ergodic secrecy multicast capacity, and probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity. The adverse effect of both fading and shadowing has been mathematically characterized and solutions to these two problems are graphically represented. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are also done to prove the accuracy of the derived mathematical expressions of the proposed model.

On the Secrecy Capacity of Fisher-Snedecor F Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

The performance of physical-layer security of the classic Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor F composite fading channels is considered in this work. Specifically, the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) are assumed to experience independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor F fading conditions, which have been shown to be encountered in realistic wireless transmission scenarios in conventional and emerging communication systems. In this context, exact closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) and the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PNSC) are derived. Additionally, an asymptotic analytical expression for the ASC is presented. The impact of shadowing and multipath fading on the secrecy performance is investigated. Our results show that increasing the fading parameter of the main channel and/or the shadowing parameter of the eavesdropper's channel improves the secrecy performance. The analytical results are compared with Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the analysis.

Achievable Physical-Layer Security Over Composite Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

We investigate the physical layer security limits of Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor .T composite fading channels. .T fading conditions have been recently shown to provide an accurate characterization of multipath fading and shadowing effects in emerging wireless transmission scenarios such as body centric, cellular and vehicular communications. To this end, we utilize a redefined analytic expression for the Fisher-Snedecor .T distribution in order to ensure unconstrained validity and reliability when used in the analysis of various performance metrics of interest. In this context, we assume that the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) undergo independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor .T composite fading. Novel exact analytic expressions are then derived for the corresponding average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP) and probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) along with their insightful asymptotic representations. In addition, analytical expressions for the ASC, SOP and SPSC over mixed fading channels such as Nakagami-m/Nakagami-m, Nakagami-m/Fisher-Snedecor .T and Fisher-Snedecor .T/Nakagami-m are derived. The new formulations are validated through comparisons with Monte-Carlo simulations and analyzed to gain useful insights into the impact of the fading parameters on the achievable accuracy and the overall system performance.

On Physical Layer Security Over the Fisher-Snedecor ${\mathcal{F}}$ Wiretap Fading Channels

Long Kong, Georges Kaddoum

In this paper, we initially investigate the physical layer security over device-to-device communications, where the channel is modeled from the Fisher-Snedecor .T distribution. To be specific, secrecy metrics, including the secrecy outage probability, the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity, and the average secrecy capacity, are well derived with exact closed-form expressions, which are given in terms of the Meijer's G-function. The accuracies of our mathematical expressions are further validated by Monte Carlo simulation results.

Opportunistic Relaying in Multicasting over Generalized Shadowed Fading Channels: A PHY Security Analysis.

S. M. S. Shahriyer, A. S. M. Badrudduza, Sarjana Shabab +1 more

The secrecy of wireless multicast networks is greatly hampered due to the simultaneous presence of fading and shadowing, which can be enhanced using random attributes of the propagation medium. This work focuses on utilizing those attributes to enhance the physical layer security (PHY security) performance of a dual-hop wireless multicast network over kappa-mu shadowed fading channel under the wiretapping attempts of multiple eavesdroppers. In order to raise the secrecy level, we employ multiple relays with the best relay selection strategy. Performance analysis has been carried out based on the mathematical modeling in terms of closed-form expressions of the probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity, secure outage probability for multicasting, and ergodic secrecy multicast capacity. Capitalizing on those expressions, we analyze how the system parameters (i.e. fading, shadowing, the number of antennas, destination receivers, eavesdroppers, and relays) affect the secrecy performance. Our numerical results show that the detrimental impacts due to fading and shadowing can be remarkably mitigated using the well-known opportunistic relaying technique. Moreover, the proposed model unifies secrecy analysis of several classical models, thereby exhibits enormous versatility than the existing works. Finally, all the numerical results are authenticated utilizing Monte-Carlo simulations.

Secrecy Performance of Multicasting over Shadowed Rician Fading Channel

Md. Shakhawat Hossen, A. S. M. Badrudduza, Abdulkarim Al Hanif +2 more

This paper deals with a secure satellite-terrestrial multicast framework over shadowed Rician fading channel, where a satellite communicates with legitimate receivers in the appearance of several eavesdroppers. Our main aim focuses on the protection of this multicast messages from wiretapping. The secrecy performance is analyzed by deriving expressions for two secrecy measures such as the ergodic secrecy multicast capacity and secure outage probability for multicasting in closed-form. The derived mathematical expressions provides an useful insight into how the severity of shadowing affects the secrecy performance of the proposed model. Impact of fading, multicast users and number of eavesdropper on the secure outage behavior is also quantified which provides a trade-off between security and the system parameters. At last a close agreement between the analytical and Monte-Carlo simulation results is presented to validate the derived mathematical expressions.

Security Performance Analysis of Physical Layer over Fisher-Snedecor $\mathcal{F}$ Fading Channels

Hussien Al‐Hmood, Hamed Saffa Al-Raweshidy

In this letter, the performance analysis of physical layer security over Fisher-Snedecor $\mathcal{F}$ fading channels is investigated. In particular, the average secrecy capacity (ASC), the secure outage probability (SOP), the lower bound of the SOP (SOP$^L$), and the strictly positive secure capacity (SPSC) are derived in exact closed-from expressions. The Fisher-Snedecor $\mathcal{F}$ fading channel is a composite of multipath/shadowed fading that are represented by the Nakagami-$m$ distribution. Moreover, it provides close results to the practical measurements than the generalised $K$ ($K_G$) fading channels. To validate our analysis, the numerical results are affirmed by the Monte Carlo simulations.
