Abstract

We illustrate the experimental observations of Autler-Townes splitting and the spatial splitting in an electromagnetically induced transparency window in a atomic vapor system of D1 line. As the power of the dressing laser beam changes, we study first-order and secondary Autler-Townes splitting. The influences of these dressing beams, which lead to the larger spatial splitting of four-wave mixing and the shift of probe transmission signal with by changing frequency detuning. Studies on such controllable Autler-Townes splitting and spatial splitting effect can be very useful in applications of spatial signal processing and optical communication.

Controllable Four-Wave Mixing Signal inside a Cascade Three-Level Atomic System

Yun Zhe Zhang, Li Bo Fa, Hui Peng Gao +4 more

We experimentally report that electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in the nonlinear propagation of probe beam, four-wave mixing (FWM) images and in a cascade three-level atomic systems. It is shown that by changing the frequency between pumping fields or dressing fields, respectively, the properties of the measured signals including the intensity and spatial images are affected greatly, including the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), Aulter-Townes splitting. By changing the laser frequency we can control the four wave signal, Moreover, the AT splitting effect due to spontaneous emission was also observed under EIT conditions..

Observation of Autler-Townes splitting in six-wave mixing

Yanpeng Zhang, Peiying Li, Huaibin Zheng +5 more

We report an observation of the self- and external-dressed Autler-Townes (AT) splitting in six-wave mixing (SWM) within an electromagnetically induce transparency window, which demonstrates the interaction between two coexisting SWM processes. The multi-dressed states induced by the nested interactions between many dressing fields and the five-level atomic system lead to the primary, secondary and triple AT splittings in the experiment. Such controlled multi-channel splitting of nonlinear optical signals can be used in a range of applications, e.g. the wavelength-demultiplexer in optical communication and quantum information processing.

Evidence of Autler–Townes splitting in high-order nonlinear processes

Yanpeng Zhang, Zhiqiang Nie, Zhiguo Wang +3 more

We demonstrate Autler-Townes (AT) splitting of four-wave mixing in an electromagnetically induced transparency window, which results from the destructive interference between a three-photon process and a five-photon process. The primary and secondary AT splittings are achieved via induced atomic coherence in a four-level Y-type atomic system. Theoretical calculations fit well with the experimentally measured results. Such controlled multichannel splitting of nonlinear optical signals can have potential applications in optical communication and quantum information processing.

Polarized Spatial Splitting of Four-Wave Mixing Signal in Multi-Level Atomic Systems

Yu-Xin Fu, Jinyan Zhao, Yue Li Song +3 more

We illustrate our experimental observation of the periodic changes of spatial splitting of the generated four-wave mixing (FWM) signal induced by different polarization states of one of the dressing beams. It is pointed out that the changes of intensity of the dressing beam and the FWM signal have influences on the spatial splitting and their influences compete with each other. The differences between p- and s-polarized FWM beams are demonstrated. The influences of the dressing beams, which lead to the larger spatial splitting with different polarization states or frequency detuning, are observed as well.

Observation of Angle Switching of Dressed Four-Wave Mixing Image

Suling Sang, Zhenkun Wu, Jia Sun +4 more

We experimentally report that angle-control dynamics in the nonlinear propagation of the images of the probe, generated four-wave mixing (FWM) and fluorescence signals beams in FWM process in a cascade three-level, as well as a two-level atomic systems. It is shown that, by changing the angles between pumping fields and dressing fields, respectively, the characteristics of the measured signals including the spectra intensity and spatial images can be controlled to display many effects, including the electromagnetically induced transparency and absorption (EIT and EIA, respectively) and Autler-Townes splitting. In particular, we demonstrate the angle-controlled switching from EIA to EIT in probe transmission or from enhancement to suppression in FWM signal. Additionally, we also illustrate the interaction between spatial characteristics and spectra intensities of weak fields. The studies can be very useful in producing all optical-signal-processing devices, such as spatial beam splitters, routers, and switches.

Enhancement and suppression of spatial splitting four-wave mixing in atomic medium

Yuming Zhuang, Suling Sang, Peiying Li +6 more

We experimentally report on the evolution from singly-dressed to doubly-dressed four-wave mixing (FWM) process by controlling the powers of the probe, the pump and the dressing fields respectively. The differences in the enhancement and the suppression of FWM signal between the two-level and cascade three-level atomic systems are observed and explained by the multi-dressed effect theoretically. Both the x direction and the y direction spatial splittings of the degenerate-FWM (DWFM) beams are obtained. We also investigate the switch between the enhancement and the suppression of the DWFM signals and between its spatial splittings in x direction and y direction. The spatial splittings in x direction and y direction can be controlled by the relative position and the intensity of the involved laser beams. Such a study can be useful for optimizing the efficiency of the FWM process and providing potential applications in spatial signal processing.
