Quantum collapses and revivals in an optical cavity

Tran Quang, P. L. Knight, V. Buek

We study the influence of the atomic spontaneous-emission decay on the collapse-revival phenomena in the optical region. We demonstrate that revivals of the atomic inversion are much more sensitive to cavity-field damping than to spontaneous emission. This suggests that the additional dissipation caused by spontaneous emission would not offer an insurmountable obstacle to the experimental observation of optical revivals in high-Q cavities.

Periodic Spontaneous Collapse and Revival in a Simple Quantum Model

Joseph H. Eberly, Nikolay B. Narozhny, J. J. Sánchez-Mondragón

This Letter reports on the existence of periodic spontaneous collapse and revival of coherence in the dynamics of a simple quantum model. Also given are the first accurate expressions for the intermediate-time and long-time dynamical behavior of the model.

Collapse and Revival of an Atomic Beam Interacting with a Coherent State Light Field

Ben Li, Jingbiao Chen

We report on the phenomena of the periodic spontaneous collapse and revival in the dynamics of an atomic beam interacting with a single-mode and coherent-state light field. Conventional collapse and revival by Eberly et al. [ Phys. Rev. Lett. 44 (1980) 1323 ] are presented in the case of the evolution with time of the population inversion. Here, we study the evolution with coupling strength of population inversion. We define the collapse and revival coupling strengths as characteristic parameters to describe the above collapse and revival. Furthermore, we present the analytic formulas for the population inversion, the collapse and revival coupling strengths.
