Abstract

Abstract The excitation of a linear quantum oscillator (LQO) upon a collision with a charged particle moving in a rectilinear trajectory is analyzed. The probability and the cross section of the process are calculated beyond the framework of perturbation theory for different charges of the incident particle, including multiply charged ions. The excitation between the LQO stationary states, as well as total excitation from the ground state, are considered. The characteristic features of the process depending on the problem parameters are analyzed.

Dynamics of Time Evolution of Quantum Oscillator Excitation by Electromagnetic Pulses

Valery Alexandrovich Astapenko, FRANK B. ROSMEJ, Evgeniya V. Sakhno

Abstract The dynamics of time evolution of quantum oscillator excitation by electromagnetic pulses is investigated theoretically for an arbitrary field amplitude in a pulse. We consider a harmonic oscillator without damping and excitation between stationary states. The general formula for the excitation of quantum states as a function of time is derived in terms of instantaneous energy of an associated classical oscillator in the field of an electromagnetic pulse. The derived expression is used in detailed analysis of the time dependence of the quantum oscillator excitation probability beyond the range of perturbation theory for various pulse parameters including total excitation from the ground state, excitation from excited states, and excitation spectra.

Chirped Laser Pulse Effect on a Quantum Linear Oscillator

Valery Alexandrovich Astapenko, Evgeniya V. Sakhno

We present a theoretical study of the excitation of a charged quantum linear oscillator by chirped laser pulse with the use of probability of the process throughout the pulse action. We focus on the case of the excitation of the oscillator from the ground state without relaxation. Calculations were made for an arbitrary value of the electric field strength by utilizing the exact expression for the excitation probability. The dependence of the excitation probability on the pulse parameters was analyzed both numerically and by using analytical formulas.

Excitation of quantum oscillator by electromagnetic wavelet pulses

Valery Alexandrovich Astapenko, Timur Bergaliyev

Abstract The excitation of a quantum oscillator at transitions between stationary states by wavelet pulses with zero and nonzero area as a function of their duration and amplitude is studied. The excitation from the ground state is examined in detail, together with the specific features of this process during excitation from excited states. Analytical expressions for the main characteristics of excitation probability under weak and strong perturbation of quantum oscillator were obtained within limits of strict consideration. Particularly, it was found that, on a qualitative and quantitative level, there is no difference between excitation by pulses with zero and non-zero area.

Quantum Oscillator at Temperature T and the Evolution of a Charged-Particle State in the Electric Field in the Probability Representation of Quantum Mechanics

Margarita A. Man’ko, Vladimir I. Man’ko

A short review constructing the probability representation of quantum mechanics is given, and examples of the probability distributions describing the states of quantum oscillator at temperature T and the evolution of quantum states of a charged particle moving in the electric field of an electrical capacitor are considered. Explicit forms of time-dependent integrals of motion, linear in the position and momentum, are used to obtain varying probability distributions describing the evolving states of the charged particle. Entropies corresponding to the probability distributions of initial coherent states of the charged particle are discussed. The relation of the Feynman path integral to the probability representation of quantum mechanics is established.

Time dependence of quantum oscillator excitation by electromagnetic pulses

Valery Alexandrovich Astapenko, FRANK B. ROSMEJ, Evgeniya V. Sakhno

The paper is devoted to the theoretical investigation of time dependences of quantum oscillator excitation by electromagnetic pulses for arbitrary values of field amplitude in the pulse. We consider the harmonic oscillator without relaxation and excitation between stationary states. The general formula for excitation of quantum states as function of time is derived in terms of instant energy of associated classical oscillator in the field of electromagnetic pulse. Thus, it is established that time dependence of quantum oscillator excitation is completely determined by the energy of the associated classical oscillator at given moment of time. Using derived expression time dependence of quantum oscillator excitation is investigated in details including total excitation from ground state, excitation from excited states, total excitation probability and corresponding excitation spectra.

Pulsed excitation of a quantum oscillator: A model accounting for damping

Valery Alexandrovich Astapenko, Timur Bergaliyev, Sergey V. Sakhno

Abstract This article proposes a model that accounts for damping of a quantum oscillator (QO) during pulsed excitation. Our model is based on the Schwinger formula, which calculates oscillator’s excitation probability through the energy of an associated classical damped oscillator. We utilize this model to describe the influence of damping on temporal and spectral dependences of QO excitation, induced by electromagnetic pulses with exponential and double exponential envelopes. The oscillator excitation is analyzed in terms of transition probability between stationary states after pulse termination. Here, we present an analytical description of these dependences, along with numerical results. Specifically, we derive analytical expressions that depict the saturation effect during pulsed excitation, taking into account the damping of a QO. The evolution of the temporal dependence of the excitation probability with a change in the damping constant is numerically traced. We demonstrate that the number of maxima in this dependence is determined by the values of pulse parameters and the damping constant.
