Abstract

Abstract The artificial neural network (ANN), as a powerful data analytical tool, has played a major role in facial recognition, nature language processing (NLP), etc. However, the efficiency of classical networks is seriously challenged by big data, however, the development of quantum theory can be combined with ANN to help overcome this problem. In this paper, we propose a quantum neural network, in which the quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) is used to optimize parameters. To analysze the system performance, it has been applied to function fitting and data classification and it is shown by classical simulation and experimentation that the proposed model is more efficient and powerful than ANN for a lot of experimental tasks. We hope that this scheme can be implemented on a quantum computer in the future.

Training an Artificial Neural Network Using Qubits as Artificial Neurons: A Quantum Computing Approach

Avinash Chalumuri, Raghavendra Kune, B. S. B. S. Manoj

Artificial neural networks (ANN) proved to be efficient in solving many problems for big data analytics using machine learning. The complex and non-linear features of the input data can be learned and generalized by ANN. In the big data era, enormous amounts of data arrive from multiple sources. A stage is expected to be reached where even supercomputers are likely inundated with the big data. Training an ANN in such a situation is a challenging task due to the size and dimension of the big data. Also, a large number of parameters are to be used and optimized in the network to learn the patterns and analyze such data. Quantum computing is emerging as a field that provides a solution to this problem as a quantum computer can represent data differently using qubits. Qubits on quantum computers can be used to detect the hidden patterns in data that are difficult for a classical computer to find. Hence, there exists a huge scope for application in the area of artificial neural networks. In this work, we primarily focused on training an artificial neural network using qubits as artificial neurons. The simulation results show that our quantum computing approach for ANN (QC ANN) is efficient when compared to classical ANN. The model with qubits as artificial neurons can learn the features of data using fewer parameters for a binary classification task. We demonstrate our experiment using a quantum simulator and optimization of the quantum parameters used in QC ANN is carried out on a classical computer.

Quantum Neural Networks the Next Leap in Artificial Intelligence

Adedoyin Adetoun Samuel

One of the most promising new directions in quantum computing and artificial intelligence convergence is the Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) that can potentially revolutionize the manner in which intelligent systems are designed, trained, and implemented. Although traditional deep learning models have proven to be incredibly successful in fields like computer vision, natural language processing and autonomous systems, they are becoming limited by computational bottlenecks, energy use, and scalability constraints when operating on large high-dimensional data. The distinctive principles of quantum mechanics (superposition, entanglement, and quantum parallelism) may be applied to the QNNs to provide a distinct computational paradigm with the ability to execute exponentially complicated computations more effectively than his classical counterparts. This article gives an in-depth analysis of QNNs as the new frontier of artificial intelligence. We start with the description of the theoretical foundations of quantum computation and their realization in the form of neural networks. We then examine state-of-the-art QNN architectures, such as hybrid quantum-classical models that help overcome present quantum hardware limitations in relation to the capabilities of classical machine learning. Some of the upcoming applications are showcased including molecular simulation and drug discovery and financial modeling, optimization, cryptography and intelligent automation. Such applications reveal the revolutionary power of QNNs to tackle the issues that cannot be tackled by traditional systems. Nonetheless, there are also major obstacles on the way to a practical implementation of QNN. Problems that still remain a barrier to widespread adoption include quantum decoherence, noise in near-term quantum devices, and the inability to scale qubit architectures or to train large-scale quantum models. In order to overcome these obstacles, we speak about the current research work on the topic of error correction, variational algorithms, and hybrid system designs. Also we examine the ethical and societal ramifications of quantum-accelerated AI, such as security, data sovereignty, and technological equity globally.

Variational algorithm of quantum neural network based on quantum particle swarm

Yumin Dong, Jianshe Xie, Wanbin Hu +2 more

Most models of quantum neural networks are optimized based on gradient descent, and like classical neural networks, gradient descent suffers from the barren plateau phenomenon, which reduces the effectiveness of optimization. Therefore, this paper establishes a new QNN model, the optimization process adopts efficient quantum particle swarm optimization, and tentatively adds a quantum activation circuit to our QNN model. Our model will inherit the superposition property of quantum and the random search property of quantum particle swarm. Simulation experiments on some classification data show that the model proposed in this paper has higher classification performance than the gradient descent-based QNN.
