Abstract

Physical layer security has recently emerged as a promising approach to provide secure wireless communications. Physical layer security technology is the key means to achieve security and communication integration. The built-in security mechanism based on the characteristics of wireless channel provides a feasible idea for the realization of “one secret at a time”. It has important application prospects in integrity protection of service data, Internet of things (IoT) lightweight encryption and blockchain wireless security technology. In this paper, we consider the scenario of a unicast multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) downlink system in the presence of multiple single-antenna passive eavesdroppers. Instead of assuming perfect channel state information (CSI), we investigate the artificial noise (AN)-aided robust transmit beamforming scheme with imperfect CSI on legitimate receivers and no CSI regarding eavesdroppers at the transmitter. Under the fixed total transmit power, the information symbol and the AN are transmitted concurrently. We aim to guarantee each legitimate receiver's signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio(SINR) outage probability below a preset level with minimum power. Hence, as much power as possible can be allocated to AN to confuse the eavesdroppers. In order to reduce the negative impact on the legitimate receivers, the AN is transmitted in the null space of the estimated legitimate channels. To deal with this nonconvex optimization problem, a rank relaxed formulation is obtained by employing semidefinite relaxation (SDR). Then we propose two approaches by using Bernstein-type inequality and S-procedure, respectively, to transform the probabilistic constraints into deterministic constraints. The optimization problem is reformulated as a convex semidefinite program (SDP). Simulation results show that the proposed approaches have better performances than the non-robust approach.

Robust Secure Transmit Design with Artificial Noise in the Presence of Multiple Eavesdroppers

Xiaochen Liu, Yuanyuan Gao, Nan Sha +2 more

This paper studies secure wireless transmission from a multi-antenna transmitter to a single-antenna intended receiver overheard by multiple eavesdroppers with considering the imperfect channel state information (CSI) of wiretap channel. To enhance security of communication link, the artificial noise (AN) is generated at transmitter. We first design the robust joint optimal beamforming of secret signal and AN to minimize transmit power with constraints of security quality of service (QoS), i.e., minimum allowable signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) at receiver and maximum tolerable SINR at eavesdroppers. The formulated design problem is shown to be nonconvex and we transfer it into linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).The semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique is used and the approximated method is proved to solve the original problem exactly. To verify the robustness and tightness of proposed beamforming, we also provide a method to calculate the worst-case SINR at eavesdroppers for a designed transmit scheme using semidefinite programming (SDP).Additionally, the secrecy rate maximization is explored for fixed total transmit power. To tackle the nonconvexity of original formulation, we develop an iterative approach employing sequential parametric convex approximation (SPCA).The simulation results illustrate that the proposed robust transmit schemes can effectively improve the transmit performance.

Artificial-Noise-Aided Robust Beamforming for MISOME Wiretap Channels with Security QoS

Xiaochen Liu, Yuanyuan Gao, Guozhen Zang +1 more

This paper studies secure communication from a multi-antenna transmitter to a single-antenna receiver in the presence of multiple multi-antenna eavesdroppers, considering constraints of security quality of service (QoS), i.e., minimum allowable signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) at receiver and maximum tolerable SINR at eavesdroppers. The robust joint optimal beamforming (RJOBF) of secret signal and artificial noise (AN) is designed to minimize transmit power while estimation errors of channel state information (CSI) for wiretap channels are taken into consideration. The formulated design problem is shown to be nonconvex and we transfer it into linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) along with semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique. The simulation results illustrate that our proposed RJOBF is efficient for power saving in security communication.

Robust Beamforming for AN Aided MISO SWIPT System with Unknown Eavesdroppers and Non-Linear EH Model

Miao Zhang, Kanapathippillai Cumanan, Lei Ni +3 more

This work studies a beamforming design for down-link transmission of a multi-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) system where each legitimate user employs a power splitting (PS) based simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technique. The transmitter intends to send confidential information to its legitimate users in the presence of purely unknown eavesdroppers. Since the transmitter does not have any knowledge of the eavesdroppers' channel state information (CSI), we consider an artificial noise (AN) approach to establishing secure communication. This beamforming design is developed by maximizing the AN power to interfere with the eavesdropper as much as possible. Based on the assumption of imperfect CSI of legitimate users at the transmitter, two robust design approaches for the joint beamforming and PS ratio have been studied to maximize the AN power under both energy harvesting (EH) and signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) requirements at each legitimate user. In the first robust design, we consider the bounded channel uncertainties, and employ semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and a linear matrix inequality (LMI) representation to transform the original problem into a semidefinite program (SDP). In the second robust design, we consider the statistical channel uncertainties, and show that the proposed problem can be reformulated into another form of SDP through both SDR and Bernstein-type inequality. In addition, the non-linear energy harvesting (EH) model is incorporated in this work as it could reflect the characteristics of practical radio frequency(RF)-EH conversion circuit. Simulation results have been provided to demonstrate the performance of our proposed robust designs.

Probabilistic Robust Secure Beamforming in MISO Channels With Imperfect LCSI and Statistical ECSI

Jing Xu, Siwen Xu, Chongbin Xu

In this paper, we investigate the robust secure transmit beamformming design for multiple-input single-output wiretap channels overheard by multiple non-collaborating single-antenna eavesdroppers. Assuming that at the transmitter, the instantaneous legitimate receiver's channel state information (CSI) is imperfect and only the statistical eavesdroppers' CSI is known, we seek to maximize the target secrecy rate R with the total transmit power constraint and the secrecy outage probability constraint. The resulting outage-constrained secrecy rate maximization (O-SRM) is non-convex and difficult to solve. Thus, we develop an efficient algorithm to solve it and determine the robust secure beamforming design. Specifically speaking, we first prove that the original O-SRM problem can be solved by an equivalent outage-constrained power minimization problem (O-PMP), which is easy to perform semi-definite relaxation (SDR) and can be solved by semi-definite program (SDP) consequently. Second, we transform the non-convex secrecy rate outage constraints into deterministic ones by resorting to Bernstein-type inequality II. Finally, by solving the convex approximation of the O-PMP with different Rs and bisection search over R, we convert the original O-SRM problem into a sequence of solvable SDPs. Simulation results are provided to verify the secrecy-rate performance improvement of the proposed robust beamforming compared with the existing worst-case design proposed by Li and Ma and the simple non-robust maximum-ratio transmission.

Robust Artificial Noise Aided Transmit Method for Multicast MISO Wiretap Channels with Imperfect Covariance-Based CSI

Lijian Zhang, Liang Jin, Wenyu Luo +2 more

In this work, a robust artificial noise (AN) aided transmit method is proposed for a multicast multiple-input single-output (MISO) system in the presence of multiple single-antenna eavesdroppers. With the imperfect covariance-based channel state information (CSI), we aim to minimize the transmit power at the transmitter under the multicast secrecy rate constraint and the maximum transmit power constraint. The resulting optimization problem involves the joint optimization of the beamforming vector and AN covariance matrix. After using the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique, we derive the exact reformulation of the original optimization through the Lagrange duality. Then this non-convex problem is transformed into a one-variable optimization problem, which can be handled by solving a series of semidefinite programs (SDPs). Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed robust transmit method.

Robust QoS-based transmit beamforming design in MISO wiretap channels

Hui Ma, Piming Ma

In this paper, a robust quality-of-service (QoS) based secret transmit beamforming design problem is discussed for a multiple-input single-output (MISO) system which works under cooperative jamming (CJ) scheme with a helper transmitting jamming signals to confuse the eavesdropper. For the channel state information (CSI), we assume that the CSI for the legitimate link is available and the CSI for the wiretap channel is imperfect. Our system design goal is to optimize the worst-case performance of the network under the situation: minimizing the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) at the eavesdropper and meanwhile guaranteeing the SINR at legitimate receiver. Thus the spatial distribution of jamming signals and the beamforming vector of source are jointly optimized under a total power constraint. As this optimization problem is difficult to tackle, a method is proposed with proofs to obtain exact solver of it. Our analysis reveals that optimizing the beamforming vector of source is a better strategy compared to optimizing the spatial covariance matrix of information signals. Numerical results affirm this and show the advantage of robust transmit designs compared to a non-robust approach in lowering the SINR at the eavesdropper in the presence of channel uncertainties.
