Quantum computing uses the phenomena of quantum mechanics to perform operations on data and it’s a huge leap in the field of computation. A quantum computer is a computational device which uses quantum mechanical phenomena like superposition and entanglement of atoms, photons, electrons. The difference between Quantum computers and digital computers is that digital computers are based on transistors and require data to be encoded into binary digits (bits). Quantum computers use quantum bits (qubits) and use quantum properties to represent data. Quantum computers can solve certain computational problems like integer factorization faster than classical computers. Quantum computers can solve certain problems that no classical computer could solve in any feasible amount of time. The Quantum Computing Market was valued at USD 89M in the year 2016 and is expected to reach USD 949M by 2025. Industry leaders are trying to develop and launch an actual quantum computer and make it available for everyone. Many companies are working in this area and are providing platforms to build quantum algorithms. There could be around 2,000 to 5,000 quantum computers in the world by 2030. This paper provides an introduction to quantum computing, quantum mechanical phenomena used in quantum computing and quantum computing service providers

Quantum computing is an emerging form of computing that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information in ways that are far different from how computers do it now. Quantum computing uses quantum bits, or qubits, which can exist in superpositions of states and get entangled with each other, which is different from classical computing, which uses a bit that represents binary values (0 or 1). These characteristics allow quantum devices to execute parallel computations, enabling significant speedups for specific categories of problems considered intractable for classical machines. This chapter gives a thorough introduction to quantum computing, starting with a historical overview of its foundations in quantum physics and significant theoretical advancements. It analyzes fundamental ideas including superposition, entanglement, quantum interference, and the no-cloning theorem, explaining how these elements distinguish quantum computation from traditional approaches. The advancement of quantum hardware is examined through several architectures, trapped ions, superconducting circuits, photonics, and topological qubits, together with software frameworks like Qiskit, Cirq, and PennyLane, which support algorithm development and simulation. The chapter examines fundamental quantum algorithms, such as Grover’s algorithm for database search, Shor’s algorithm for integer factorization, and hybrid variational methods designed for noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices. The practical applications in domains including as encryption, optimization, machine learning, chemistry, and finance emphasize the real-world significance of quantum technology. Challenges like decoherence, noise, scalability, and algorithmic maturity are rigorously analyzed, followed by an anticipated discourse on future trajectories including fault-tolerant architectures, quantum networking, and the development of quantum cloud services. This chapter presents a fundamental introduction for students, researchers, and practitioners seeking to comprehend the essential principles, functionalities, and possibilities of quantum computing in the post–Moore’s law period.
Classical computers have been present for a long time and they have played a significant role in scientific advancements. Quantum computing has shown good results in solving complex problems. Quantum computers use phenomena of quantum superposition and quantum entanglement to form states that scale exponentially with the number of qubits or quantum bits [1]. Classical computers use individual bits, 0 and 1 to store information as binary data & quantum computers use the probability of state before it is measured [2]. Therefore, it gives them a potential to process exponentially more data as compared to classical computers. Unlike classical computers that use binary bits, quantum computers use qubits that are produced by quantum state of object to perform operations. Since, these qubits are quantum, they follow phenomena like quantum superposition and entanglement. Superposition is ability of a quantum system to be in multiple states at the same time. Entanglement is the strong correlation among quantum particles. These phenomena help quantum computers work with 0, 1 and superposition of 0 and 1, giving it advantage of doing complex calculations that classical systems cannot do or take a significant amount of time to get desired results [3]. Quantum computing is used because of its potential for changing time and space complexity of many algorithms we have been using as a solution to linear system of equations [4]. Quantum simulation is one of the most prominent areas of quantum computers, it has the potential to solve the complexities of molecular and chemical interactions which can lead to the discovery of new medicines and materials. Various applications of quantum computing in several significant areas of computer science, such as cryptography, machine learning, deep learning and quantum simulations. They also use various real-life scenarios such as risk analysis, logistics and satellite communication [6].
The advent of computers has significantly diminished the need for manual computation. As technology has evolved, it has led to the creation of classical computers with high performance, throughput, and memory capacity. Classical computers store data in binary format, using bits that can either be 0 or 1, typically represented by low and high voltage levels, respectively. While effective, this method sometimes demands considerable resources for certain computations. In contrast, quantum computers represent the cutting edge of computing technology. They utilize quantum bits or qubits, which exploit quantum mechanical phenomena like superposition and entanglement, allowing for more efficient problem-solving. This paper presents a simplified overview of the core concepts of quantum computing.
Quantum computing is nowadays a very popular topic in terms of technology, enabling individuals to solve various types of computational problems. Quantum computing is a multidisciplinary area consisting of Information Technology, mathematics, and physics that uses quantum theory/mechanism. Classical computer systems use the binary number system (0 or 1), whereas quantum computers use quantum bits that represent both 0 and 1 together. Quantum computing is used in solving optimization problems. Quantum computing improves machine learning algorithms by efficiently analyzing complex data. Quantum computers can improve AI models by training them quickly. Quantum computing has an impact in the sectors of healthcare, finance, security, etc., and each has its own applications.
Quantum computing studies theoretical computation systems (quantum computers) that make direct use of quantum-mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform operations on data. This paper will focus on the extent to which quantum computing will be helpful, will compare classical versus quantum computing and some problems which are not feasible to solve by classical computing which calls for a demand of faster computer which is Quantum Computer. The researcher's have discovered the possibility for an entirely new type of computer, one that operates according to the laws of quantum physics. A quantum computer would not just be a traditional computer built out of different parts, but a machine that would exploit the laws of quantum physics to perform certain information processing tasks in a spectacularly more efficient manner.
Quantum theory is one of the most successful theories that have influenced the course of
scientific progress during the twentieth century. It has presented a new line of scientific thought, predicted entirely inconceivable situations and influenced several domains of
modern technologies. There are many different ways for expressing laws of science in
general and laws of physics in particular. Similar to physical laws of nature, information
can also be expressed in different ways. The fact that information can be expressed in
different ways without losing its essential nature, leads for the possibility of the automatic
manipulation of information.
Quantum computing is a study area that focuses on developing computers based on the properties of “quantum theory” & “quantum physics”. Quantum theory defines the behavior & nature of energy and matter on the “atomic” and “subatomic” levels also known as the quantum levels. A quantum computer is a computational device that utilizes the phenomena of quantum mechanics with its quantum properties to structure & process data. A large-scale quantum computer is capable of performing operations in exponentially enormous speed compared to a classical computer. Development of such computers is considered a massive leap for mankind in computing abilities with huge performance gains for simulations or brute force for example.
All ways of expressing information use physical system, spoken words are
conveyed by air pressure fluctuations: “No information without physical representation”.
Quantum computers are not meant to replace typical computers. In practice, they will be separate instruments used to solve complex, data-heavy problems, particularly those that make use of machine learning, where the system can make predictions and improve over time.
