Abstract

On the basis of the unified calculation of the thermal shifts of R1 line, R2 line and ground-state-splitting transition probabilities of direct and Raman processes have theoretically been calculated. The thermal broadenings of R,The theoretically predicted transition probabilities are in good agreement with the experimental ones.PACS numbers: 71.70.Ch, 78.20.Nv, 63.20.Mt, 63.20.Kr

Linewidths of the R′ Optical Transitions of Chromium Ions in Ruby

Milton Birnbaum, Paul Kisliuk, Tom L. Stocker +1 more

New experimental measurements of the temperature dependence of the R′ fluorescence of ruby (77°–450°K) have disclosed features not previously observed. Direct phonon transitions to nearby levels contribute less and indirect Raman processes contribute more to the R3′ linewidth than had previously been reported. Direct phonon relaxation from the R1′ and R2′ levels to the 2E level contributes appreciably to linewidth of their fluorescence to the ground state.

Radiative spectral transfer in ruby

Peter M. Selzer, William M. Yen

The first direct observation of radiative spectral transfer within an inhomogeneously broadened line (the R(1) line of ruby) is reported. As opposed to nonradiative transfer, the temperature dependence of the radiative process is consistent with exponential, in agreement with recent predictions. A temperature-independent, resonant process is also directly observed. The implication of these results for the concept of microscopic strain broadening is discussed.

Pressure shifts and broadenings of Rb Rydberg states by Ne, Kr, and H2

Douglas C. Thompson, E. Kammermayer, Boris Peter Stoicheff +1 more

Broadening and shift rates for Rb $^{2}\mathrm{S}$ and $^{2}\mathrm{D}$ Rydberg states with principal quantum number n\ensuremath{\sim}10--50 have been measured for Ne, Kr, and ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ perturbers, using the technique of Doppler-free two-photon spectroscopy. From the shift rates at high n, we derived electron scattering lengths of (0.24\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.01)${a}_{0}$ for Ne, (-4.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3)${a}_{0}$ for Kr, and (1.64\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.07)${a}_{0}$ for ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$. For Ne and Kr, these are in good agreement with other experimental values. Also, the n dependence of broadening and shift rates follows theoretical predictions for Ne and Kr, but not for ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$.

Temperature Dependence of Selective Emission Intensity of the R1 Line upon Laser–Thermal Heating of Ruby

Valery M. Marchenko, Yu. A. Shakir

Abstract The temperature dependence of the selective emission intensity of the R1 line upon laser-thermal heating of ruby is studied and explained by competition of radiative and nonradiative relaxation processes.

CALCULATION OF THE ENERGY LEVELS AND THE SPLITTINGS OF THE SHARP LINES IN THE ABSORPTION SPECTRUM OF RUBY

TAN WEI-HAN

Abstract By means of the LT representation the author calculated the energy levels and the splittings of sharp lines in ruby. The interaction between various configurations has been taken into account. The splittings of energy levels of R and B lines so obtained agree well with experimental results. But the splitting of ground state comes out too small to be compared with experiment. If may be attributed to the perturbation of the higher energy levels. . 作者及机构信息 谭维翰 1. 中国科学院 Authors and contacts TAN WEI-HAN 1. 中国科学院 参考文献 [1] 施引文献
