Abstract

We derive that sufficient and necessary conditions for existence of a quantum channel φ and a generalized unitary operation e sending Ai to Bi(1≤ i≤ k) for two given families {Ai}i=1k,{Bi}i=1k of matrices, respectively. As an application,a sufficient and necessary condition for existence of a unitary duality quantum computer with given input-output states is obtained.

Quantum conditional operations

Alessandro Bisio, Michele Dall’Arno, Paolo Perinotti

An essential element of classical computation is the ``if-then'' construct, that accepts a control bit and an arbitrary gate, and provides conditional execution of the gate depending on the value of the controlling bit. On the other hand, quantum theory prevents the existence of an analogous universal construct accepting a control qubit and an arbitrary quantum gate as its input. Nevertheless, there are controllable sets of quantum gates for which such a construct exists. Here we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a set of unitary transformations to be controllable, and we give a complete characterization of controllable sets in the two-dimensional case. This result reveals an interesting connection between the problem of controllability and the problem of extracting information from an unknown quantum gate while using it.

Reversibility of a quantum channel: General conditions and their applications to Bosonic linear channels

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

The method of complementary channel for analysis of reversibility (sufficiency) of a quantum channel with respect to families of input states (pure states for the most part) are considered and applied to Bosonic linear (quasi-free) channels, in particular, to Bosonic Gaussian channels. The obtained reversibility conditions for Bosonic linear channels have clear physical interpretation and their sufficiency is also shown by explicit construction of reversing channels. The method of complementary channel gives possibility to prove necessity of these conditions and to describe all reversed families of pure states in the Schrodinger representation. Some applications in quantum information theory are considered. Conditions for existence of discrete classical-quantum subchannels and of completely depolarizing subchannels of a Bosonic linear channel are presented.

Physical transformations between quantum states

Zejun Huang, Chi-Kwong Li, Edward Poon +1 more

Given two sets of quantum states {A1, …, Ak} and {B1, …, Bk}, represented as sets as density matrices, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of a physical transformation T, represented as a trace-preserving completely positive map, such that T(Ai) = Bi for i = 1, …, k. General completely positive maps without the trace-preserving requirement, and unital completely positive maps transforming the states are also considered.

On additive Gaussian quantum channels

Martin Idel, Robert König

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a Gaussian quantum channel to have a dilation involving a passive, i.e., number-preserving unitary. We then establish a normal form of such channels: any passively dilatable channel is the result of applying passive unitaries to the input and output of a Gaussian additive channel. The latter combine the state of the system with that of the environment by means of a multi-mode beamsplitter.

Universal Quantum Channel Simulation in Duality Quantum Computing

Shi-jie Wei, Tao Xin, Gui‐Lu Long

Quantum channels describe general transformations of the state of a physical system and play a fundamental role in many fields. It promises wide range of applications, because any physical process can be represented as a quantum channel transforming an initial state into a final state. The evolution of system undergoing a quantum channel is not necessary unitary which makes it unrealisable without ancillary system. Inspired by the method performing non-unitary operator by the linear combination of unitary operations, we proposed a quantum algorithm for the simulation of universal single-qubit channel, described by a convex combination of two generalized extreme channels corresponding to four Kraus operators, and is scalable to arbitrary higher dimension. We demonstrate the whole algorithm experimentally using the universal IBM cloud quantum computer and study properties of different qubit quantum channels. We illustrate the quantum capacity of the general qubit quantum channels, which quantifies the amount of quantum information that can be protected. There is a general agreement between the theoretical predictions and the experiments, which strongly supported our method. By realizing arbitrary qubit channel, this work provides a universal way to explore various properties of quantum channel and novel prospect of quantum communication.
