A Study of Multiagent Reinforcement Learning based on Quantum Theory

In this paper, we present a novel multiagent reinforcement learning algorithm based on Q-learning and quantum theory. As in reinforcement learning algorithm, when the number of agents or/and agent's action is large enough, all of the action selection methods will be failed: the speed of learning is decreased sharply, we try to combine the quantum theory with Q-learning, hoping that the problem will be resolved with our proposed.

A Novel Multiagent Reinforcement Learning Algorithm Combination with Quantum Computation

Xiangping Meng, Yu Chen, Yuzhen Pi +1 more

A novel learning policy in multiagent reinforcement learning is presented, trying to find another tradeoff of exploration and exploitation efficiently, which is different from traditional greedy or softmax action selection method. The state and action of multiagent are represented with quantum superposition state, and probability amplitude is used to denote the probability of an action. Quantum search algorithm is adopted in multiagent action selection. The experiment results show that the new algorithm is effective and can help multiagent learn faster. This combination of quantum computing with multiagent reinforcement learning is an attempt, and the idea possibly brings more researches in multiagent reinforcement learning.

Quantum Multiagent Actor–Critic Neural Networks for Internet-Connected Multirobot Coordination in Smart Factory Management

Won Joon Yun, Jae Pyoung Kim, Soyi Jung +2 more

As one of the latest fields of interest in both academia and industry, quantum computing has garnered significant attention. Among various topics in quantum computing, variational quantum circuits (VQCs) have been noticed for their ability to carry out quantum deep reinforcement learning (QRL). This article verifies the potential of QRL, which will be further realized by implementing quantum multiagent reinforcement learning (QMARL) from QRL, especially for Internet-connected autonomous multirobot control and coordination in smart factory applications. However, the extension is not straightforward due to the nonstationarity of classical MARL. To cope with this, the centralized training and decentralized execution (CTDE) QMARL framework is proposed under the Internet connection. A smart factory environment with the Internet of Things (IoT)-based multiple agents is used to show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm. The simulation corroborates that the proposed QMARL-based autonomous multirobot control and coordination performs better than the other frameworks.
