Simulation of entanglement dynamics for a scattering between a free and a bound carrier in a quantum wire

Paolo Bordone, Andrea Bertoni, Jacoboni

We present a numerical analysis of the creation of entanglement between an electron freely propagating along a quantum wire and a charged particle bound to a specific site by a harmonic potential. The latter can be considered as a simplified model of an ionized impurity with an internal structure or of a localized phonon mode. Its dynamics is coupled to that of the free electron through a screened Coulomb potential. The time-dependent Schrodinger equation is solved numerically for the two-particle wave function thus describing the coherent evolution of the bipartite system. The two particle are considered distinguishable. As initial condition the product of a minimum uncertainty wave packet and the ground state of the harmonic oscillator are considered.

Coherent optical polarization of bulk GaAs studied by femtosecond photon-echo spectroscopy

A. Lohner, Kai Rick, P. Leisching +5 more

The nonlinear polarization close to the band gap of GaAs is studied by spectrally and temporally resolved four-wave mixing. Excitonic and free carrier contributions both excited within the bandwidth of the 100 fs pulses are distinguished for the first time. The excitonic part dominates at carrier densities below ${10}^{16}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}3}$. At higher density, nonthermalized free carriers give rise to an additional component resonant to the pulse that shows a photon-echo-like time behavior. Monte Carlo simulations including the coherent polarization and the scattering dynamics of the carriers account for the data.

Applications of nonlinear effects in silicon wire waveguides: all-optical modulation, wavelength conversion, and quantum entanglement

Koji Yamada, Tai Tsuchizawa, T. Watanabe +10 more

We demonstrate efficient nonlinear functions using silicon nanophotonic structures. In the ultrasmall core of the waveguides and cavities, nonlinear phenomena are significantly enhanced. Applying the two-photon absorption effect, we have confirmed all optical modulation, in which the modulation speed is improved to around 50 ps by eliminating free carriers. Applying the four-wave-mixing effect, we have achieved high-efficiency wavelength conversion. The conversion efficiency is -11 dB, and the efficiency will be further improved by eliminating free carriers. Using the four-wave- mixing effect, we have also realized a low-noise entangled photon pair source. The source does not need a refrigeration system for noise reduction, which is a great advantage for practical application.
