Abstract

We have studied the properties of k-photon unitary operator Sk(z), including the change in properties of phase space under the action of Sk(z) and properties of coherent state and vacuum state which underwent the action of high order nonlinear processes. The results show that the light field should have some new non-classical properties which is unknown as yet.

Amplitude-squared squeezing in multiphoton nonlinear processes

Yang Zhan

In this paper the amplitude-squared squeezing in the multiphoton nonlinear optical processes is studied. It is examined that amplitude-squared squeezing can be created in the first order approximation by k-photon unitary operators Sk(z) (K 2) acting on the coherent state |α(|α|≠0) and one can not be created by Sk(z) (K 2, K≠4) acting on the vacuum state. It is found that amplitude-squared squeezing can be created by 4-photon unitary operator S4(z) acting on the vacuum state and this shows that the amplitude-squared squeezing is a new nonclassioal effect of light field which is independent of the second order squeezing, antibunohing and sub-Poisson statistics.

Non-classical Properties of Superposed State of Two-mode Vacuum State and Two-mode Coherent State

Bainian Wang

A new class of non-class of non-classical state of the radiation field is constructed, which is called superposed state of two-mode vacuum state and two-mode coherent state. The non-classical properties are discussed, which are squeezed effect,sub-Poissonian distribution and the second-order cross correlation function between the two modes. The numerical results show that the superposed state of two-mode vacuum state and two-mode coherent state possesses very obvious non-classical properties. Therefore it is a new non-classical quantum state.

Non-classical Properties of Two-mode SU(1, 1) Coherent States

Luc Gilles, P. L. Knight

We examine the non-classical properties of two-mode coherent states based on different unitary irreducible representations of SU(1, 1). Such states are generated by the action of the two-mode squeezing operator on initial states of the field containing arbitrary numbers of photons in each of the two modes. If the initial state of the field is a two-mode vacuum state, the final state is of course the two-mode squeezed vacuum. An initial occupation generalizes the idea of a squeezed vacuum to the SU(1, 1) coherent states. We show that fields in such states have remarkable quantum properties such as sub-Poissonian statistics, violations of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, strong correlations in the photon number fluctuations and squeezing. Using information theory formalism, we show that these coherent states are less correlated than the usual two-mode squeezed vacuum. Moreover, we show that an initial coherent amplitude contribution, in a large amplitude limit, can result in the reduction of correlations between modes.

NONLINEAR SQUEEZED VACUUM STATES: NONCLASSICAL PROPERTIES

Mahmoud Darwish

Some of the properties of nonlinear squeezed vacuum states associated with trapped ions are considered, especially the photon number distribution, the phase properties, the Husimi–Kano Q function and the Wigner–Moyal W function of these nonlinear squeezed vacuum states. The structure of these functions is shown to depend on the nonlinearity parameter, its functional dependence and the squeezing parameter. It is shown that increasing the nonlinearity parameter results in the photon number distribution being squeezed independent.

Catching the elementary step of excitation of a coherent light state by a single photon

Marco Bellini, Alessandro Zavatta, Silvia Viciani

A new class of non-classical light states has been experimentally generated and their complete phase-space characterization has been achieved by quantum homodyne tomography. Such states are produced by the action of the photon creation operator on a coherent light field and are thus the result of the elementary excitation process of a classical field by a single quantum. Being intermediate between a single-photon Fock state and a coherent one, they offer the unique opportunity to closely follow the smooth evolution between the particle-like and the wave-like behavior of the light field.
