Inhibition of Atomic Decay in Strongly Coupled Photonic Crystal Cavities

Yan-Li Xue, Ke Zhang, Baohua Feng +1 more

We discuss the evolution dynamics of a quantum system consisting of two two-level atoms separately embedded within two strongly coupled photonic crystal cavities. Although the quantum system is subjected to dissipation and decoherence from the cavity leakage and the atomic decay, it does allow for eigenstates that are not influenced by one of the two dissipation channels and results in dissipation-inhibition quantum states. These dissipation-free quantum states can help to achieve an extremely long photon and atom storage lifetime and provide a new perspective to realize efficient quantum information storage via reducing the negative influence of the dissipation from the environment.

Effect of phonon coupling on the cooperative two-photon emission from two quantum dots

Jitendra K. Verma, Harmanpreet Singh, Pradyumna K. Pathak

We predict dominating cooperative two-photon emission from two quantum dots coupled with a single-mode photonic crystal cavity. The cooperative two-photon emission occurs when excitons in two off-resonantly coupled quantum dots decay simultaneously. The interaction with a common cavity field leads to cavity-induced two-photon emission which is strongly inhibited by electron-phonon coupling. The interaction with a common phonon bath produces phonon-induced two-photon emission which increases on increasing temperature. For identical quantum dots, cavity-induced two-photon emission is negligible, but phonon-induced two-photon emission could be large.

Inhibition of double excitation and strong quantum entanglement via engineered cavity interactions

Chengjie Zhu, W. Li, Yaping Yang +1 more

We propose a method for realizing the inhibition of simultaneous excitation of two identical qubits in a single-mode cavity QED system, where two qubits are driven by a coherent field and coupled to a cavity with engineered qubit-cavity interactions. By suitably chosen placements of the qubits in the cavity and by adjusting the relative decay strengths of the qubits and cavity field, we close many unwanted excitation pathways. This leads to an inhibition of the doubly excited state. In addition, we show that these two qubits are strongly entangled over a broad regime of the system parameters. We show that a strong signature of nonexcitation of the doubly excited state is the bunching property of the cavity photons, which thus provides a possible measurement of this nonexcitation. We also present dynamical features of the inhibition of simultaneous excitation of two qubits. The proposal presented in this paper can be realized not only in traditional cavity QED, but also in noncavity topological photonics involving edge modes.
