Anisotropic Harmonic Oscillator in a Static Electromagnetic Field

Abstract

A nonrelativistic charged particle moving in an anisotropic harmonic oscillator potential plus a homogeneousstatic electromagnetic field is studied. Several configurations of the electromagnetic field are considered. The Schrodingerequation is solved analytically in most of the cases. The energy levels and wave functions are obtained explicitly. Insome of the cases, the ground state obtained is not a minimum wave packet, though it is of the Gaussian type. Coherentand squeezed states and their time evolution axe discussed in detail.

Quantum Dynamics and Non-Inertial Frames of Reference. III: Charged Particle in Time-Dependent Uniform Electromagnetic Field

Shuji Takagi

By successive applications of time-dependent rotation, translation and dilatation, it is shown that a charged time-dependent harmonic oscillator in a uniform time-dependent electromagnetic field is equivalent to a free particle. This equivalence is employed to present a simple derivation of the Feynman kernel as well as to obtain a concrete picture of the time evolution of a generic wave packet. A compact formula for an evolving anisotropic Gaussian packet is also derived. A special case of this formula gives a squeezed coherent state for a harmonic oscillator whose frequency is an arbitrary function of time. Finally we discuss an Aharonov-Bohm-Berry-like phase associated with a wave packet whose center traces a closed circuit.

Harmonic Oscillators

Tao Xiang

The quantum harmonic oscillator is a quantum-mechanical analog of the classical harmonic oscillator. Because an arbitrary potential can usually be approximated as a harmonic potential at the vicinity of a stable equilibrium point, it is one of the most important model systems in quantum mechanics. Coherent state is physically interesting because it is a minimum uncertainty state at which the Heisenberg uncertainty relation reaches its minimum. If a charged particle of charge moves in an electromagnetic field, there is a Lorentz force acting on the particle. The electric and magnetic are invariant under the gauge transformation. In the presence of an external vector potential, the Hamiltonian is changed, so is the probability current operator.

Gaussian Wave Packet for a Time-Dependent Harmonic Oscillator Model of a Charged Particle in a Variable Magnetic Field

Salah Menouar, Mustapha Maamache, Jeong Ryeol Choi

We obtained the exact solution of the Schrodinger equation for a time-dependent harmonic oscillator model of a charged particle in a variable magnetic field, which is the semiclassical Gaussian wave packet centered around the classical guiding trajectory (p(subscript i), q(svbscript i)). The Gaussian wave packet presented here is well-localized in space and useful for determining various features of the classical-like wave packet.
