Abstract

[Phys。加快。Lett。

Controlling the Directed Quantum Transport of Ultracold Atoms in an Optical Lattice with a Periodic Driving Field

We propose a new method to control the directed quantum transport of ultracold atoms in a one-dimensional optical lattice. In this proposal, the effective tunneling between the neighboring sites can be adjusted via coherent destruction of tunneling by tuning the phase of the external field, instead of using the driving field intensity or the frequency, thus the directed quantum transport of ultracold atoms can be coherently controlled in a much easier manner. Our proposal overcomes the major drawback of the method used by Creffield et al. [ Phys. Rev. Lett. 99 (2007) 110501 ], and can be implemented, in principle, in any one-dimensional optical lattice. Some potential applications of the scheme are also discussed.

Detecting Floquet resonances with directed transport of ultracold atoms

Christopher Grossert, Martin Leder, S. Denisov +2 more

Coherent directed quantum transport of ultracold rubidium atoms in an optical realization of a quantum rocking ratchet is investigated experimentally. By changing parameters of the underlying periodic modulations we resolve transport resonances in the mean momentum of a dilute atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. These resonances are attributed to the avoided crossings between Floquet eigenstates which are widely separated on the energy scale. By increasing the amplitude of the drive we observe a theoretically predicted bifurcation of a single-peak resonance into a doublet. Our results prove the feasibility of fine experimental control over nonequlibrium, coherent quantum transport in ac-driven optical lattices

Directed transport in driven optical lattices by gauge generation

C. E. Creffield, Fernando Sols

We examine the dynamics of ultracold atoms held in optical-lattice potentials. By controlling the switching of a periodic driving potential we show how a phase-induced renormalization of the intersite tunneling can be used to produce directed motion and control wave-packet spreading. We further show how this generation of a synthetic gauge potential can be used to split and recombine wave packets, providing an attractive route to implementing quantum computing tasks.
