Atomic population inversion and absorption dispersion-spectra driven by modified double-exponential quotient pulses in a three-level atom

Abstract

In this study, we control a three-level atomic system using a typical strong control field with a modified quotient double exponential form (modified QEXP). The considered atomic configuration is a V-type three-level system in which QEXP is applied between the ground and excited states. Atomic population inversion can be achieved by selecting specific shaped pulses. In addition, we control the temporal atomic coherence of the system for a spectrum of waveforms and derive both absorption and dispersion spectra. Compared to a continuous wave control field, the proposed modified QEXP pulse achieves an electromagnetically induced transparency window in the absorption spectrum.

Exact Solutions of the Bloch Equations of a Two-Level Atom Driven by the Generalized Double Exponential Quotient Pulses with Dephasing

Sofiane Grira, Nadia Boutabba, Hichem Eleuch

We theoretically investigate a two-level atom driven by a time-dependent external field with a generalized double exponential temporal shape, in the presence of dephasing. Therefore, we provide exact analytical solutions for the population inversion, the real and the imaginary parts of the coherence for a family of chirped and time-dependent laser waveforms. We demonstrate that the remaining atomic population inversion can be controlled by the manipulation of the pulse’s shape structure.

In this paper we control the atomic population inversion of a three-level atomic medium by applying a few-cycle strong laser pulse to excite the system. We use a trong field which has the shape of a double exponential function.

Quantum control of an optically dense atomic medium: Pulse shaping in a V-type three-level system

Nadia Boutabba, Hichem Eleuch

In this paper, we suggest a straight-forward technique to control the atomic population inversion in a three-level dense medium based on the pulse shaping with a phase-jump. A strong stokes field and two weak probe fields excite the atomic medium via the V-type configuration. First, we reveal that the atomic population inversion is accomplished under a shaped pulse. Second, we show that this is significantly improved by including a phase-jump in the pulse profile. Finally, we suggest a typical combined shape and phase in order to control the dynamics of the atomic population inversion.

The role of atomic coherence in enhanced absorption line-profile

Enoch Santeto Kuntai, Jared Ombiro Gwaro, Elijah Ogaro Nyakang’o

Abstract In this paper, we present a theoretical analysis of the burning of a narrow transparency window on the enhanced absorption spectrum of a probe laser in a triple resonance configuration visualized as a V-type plus a two-level system. The transparency window is due to coherence effects causing electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a V-type system (i.e. Autler–Townes splitting plus quantum interference), for atomic vapor at a finite temperature. Additionally, the EIT window is enhanced by velocity induced population oscillation effect, velocity selective saturation effect, optical pumping effect (a source of ground state level population dynamics) and wavelength mismatch of the resonant laser fields forming a V-type configuration.

Population inversion and absorption spectrum of a V-type three-level atom driven by coherent and stochastic fields

Gao‐xiang Li, Jin-sheng Peng, Guangming Huang

The steady-state populations and the absorption spectrum of a V-type three-level atom driven by a strong coherent field and a weak stochastic one simultaneously are investigated. The population inversion in bare-state and dressed-state bases can happen significantly due to the effect of the stochastic field. A relation between the level gap of both atomic excited states and the Rabi frequency is found to decide in which excited state the population is larger than in another one for the same frequency detuning δ between the coherent and the stochastic fields. The line profiles of the absorption spectrum are strongly dependent on the frequency detuning δ. Different lineshapes such as a sharp emission peak (gain), an absorption peak or a dispersion-like peak can be exhibited at the line centre for different δ. Asymmetrical spectral features and line narrowing can be reached by adjusting δ and the Rabi frequency. Probe gain in sidebands can occur due to the unbalanced population distribution in dressed states.

Strong field coherent control of atomic population transfer

Carlos A Trallero-Herrero, Stephen D. Clow, Thomas H. Bergeman +1 more

We demonstrate a population inversion in a three-level system via three-photon absorption from a single shaped ultrafast laser pulse. The optimal pulse shape for the inversion is discovered using closed-loop learning control and interpreted via pulse shape parameter scans and numerical integration of the Schrödinger equation. The population inversion is measured using a combination of spontaneous and stimulated emissions. Our results illustrate the importance of dynamic Stark shifts in coherent multi-photon excitation.
