Abstract

Wavelet analysis has applications in many areas, such as signal analysis and image processing. We propose a method for generating the complete circuit of Haar wavelet based MRA by factoring butterfly matrices and conditional perfect shuffle permutation matrices. The factorization of butterfly matrices is the essential part of the design. As a result, it is the key point to obtain the circuits of .I2t()W()I2n-2t-2. In this paper, we use a simple means to develop quantum circuits for this kind of matrices. Similarly, the conditional permutation matrix is implemented entirely, combined with the scheme of Fijany and Williams. The cir-cuits and the ideas adopted in the design are simple and in-telligible.

Quantum Harr wavelet transform and its complete circuits

XU Wen-bo

Because of the prominent advantages of quantum computation compared to classic computation, implementation of quantum wavelet transforms has profound significance to its completion and application. After the circuit for perfect shuffle permutation matrices is finished, the unitary matrices for Harr functions are decomposed into a sequence of W-H and perfect shuffle permutation matrices, based on the generalized Kronecker product. Then the quantum circuit for Harr matrices is provided, its realizable complexity and pos-sibility of physical implementation is analyzed.

Quantum Wavelet Transforms: Fast Algorithms and Complete Circuits

Amir Fijany, Colin P. Williams

The quantum Fourier transform (QFT), a quantum analog of the classical Fourier transform, has been shown to be a powerful tool in developing quantum algorithms. However, in classical computing there is another class of unitary transforms, the wavelet transforms, which are every bit as useful as the Fourier transform. Wavelet transforms are used to expose the multi-scale structure of a signal and are likely to be useful for quantum image processing and quantum data compression. In this paper, we derive efficient, complete, quantum circuits for two representative quantum wavelet transforms, the quantum Haar and quantum Daubechies $D^{(4)}$ transforms. Our approach is to factor the operators for these transforms into direct sums, direct products and dot products of unitary matrices. In so doing, we find that permutation matrices, a particular class of unitary matrices, play a pivotal role. Surprisingly, we find that operations that are easy and inexpensive to implement classically are not always easy and inexpensive to implement quantum mechanically, and vice versa. In particular, the computational cost of performing certain permutation matrices is ignored classically because they can be avoided explicitly. However, quantum mechanically, these permutation operations must be performed explicitly and hence their cost enters into the full complexity measure of the quantum transform. We consider the particular set of permutation matrices arising in quantum wavelet transforms and develop efficient quantum circuits that implement them. This allows us to design efficient, complete quantum circuits for the quantum wavelet transform.

Image Compression Based on Quantum Haar Wavelet Transform

Song Hong Yan

The Haar wavelet algorithm based on quantum computing and its application for color image compression are discussed.Firstly, classical Haar wavelet operator is decomposed into direct sums, direct products and dot products of unitary matrices,so that shuffle permutation matrices is found.Secondly, based on the generalized Kronecker product,Harr functions are decomposed into a sequence of W-H and shuffle permutation matrices.Thirdly, the efficient, complete, quantum circuits for representative quantum wavelet transform are given. Finally, algorithm for color image compression by quantum Haar wavelet is presented, and experiment results are given. The experiment results show that the quantum Haar wavelet has very good feasibility in image compression.

The multi-level and multi-dimensional quantum wavelet packet transforms

Hai-Sheng Li, Ping Fan, Haiying Xia +2 more

Abstract The classical wavelet packet transform has been widely applied in the information processing field. It implies that the quantum wavelet packet transform (QWPT) can play an important role in quantum information processing. In this paper, we design quantum circuits of a generalized tensor product (GTP) and a perfect shuffle permutation (PSP). Next, we propose multi-level and multi-dimensional (1D, 2D and 3D) QWPTs, including a Haar QWPT (HQWPT), a D4 QWPT (DQWPT) based on the periodization extension and their inverse transforms for the first time, and prove the correctness based on the GTP and PSP. Furthermore, we analyze the quantum costs and the time complexities of our proposed QWPTs and obtain precise results. The time complexities of HQWPTs is at most 6 on 2n elements, which illustrates high-efficiency of the proposed QWPTs. Simulation experiments demonstrate that the proposed QWPTs are correct and effective.
