Influence of Bipartite Qubit Coupling on Geometric Phase

Abstract

The geometric phase of the bipartite Heisenberg spin-1/2 system with one spin driven by rotating magnetic field is investigated. It is found that in the one-site drive case, the intersubsystem coupling can be equivalent to a static quasi-magnetic field in the parameter space. This perspective has satisfactorily explained the irregular asymptote effect of geometric phase. We discuss the property of the two-site magnetic drive spin system and discover that a stationary state with no geometric phase shift is generated.

Effect of intersubsystem coupling on the geometric phase in a bipartite system

X. X. Yi, Erik Sjöqvist

The influence of intersubsystem coupling on the cyclic adiabatic geometric phase in bipartite systems is investigated. We examine the geometric phase effects for two uniaxially coupled spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particles, both driven by a slowly rotating magnetic field. It is demonstrated that the relation between the geometric phase and the solid angle enclosed by the magnetic field is broken by the spin-spin coupling, in particular leading to a quenching effect on the geometric phase in the strong coupling limit.

Off-diagonal geometric phase in composite systems

X. X. Yi, Junli Chang

The effect of the intersubsystem coupling on the off-diagonal geometric phase in a composite system is investigated. We analyze the case where the system undergoes an adiabatic evolution. Two coupled qubits driven by time-dependent external magnetic fields are presented as an example; the off-diagonal geometric phase as well as the adiabatic condition are examined and discussed.

Berry’s phase with quantized field driving: Effects of intersubsystem coupling

L. C. Wang, H. T. Cui, X. X. Yi

The effect of intersubsystem coupling on the Berry phase of a composite system as well as that of its subsystem is investigated. We analyze two coupled spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ systems with one driven by a quantized field as an example. The pure-state geometric phase of the composite system as well as the mixed-state geometric phase for the subsystem is calculated and discussed.

A new concept of geometric phase in parameter space: coupling as a parameter

Lei Xing

We have obtained the geometric phase of the tripartite spin-1/2 system with spin-spin coupling and discussed the influence of this coupling on the geometric phase. We have discovered the coupling-independent geometric phase and explained it. Based on this work, we propose the concept of quasimagnetic field and assimilate the coupling into the parameter space. By this theory, the relation between the geometric phase and the solid angle in parameter space still holds for a system with spin-spin coupling if the concept of the parameter is properly revised in the way we have elucidated.

Design of geometric phase gates and controlling the dynamic phase for a two-qubit Ising model in magnetic fields

M. Amniat-Talab, Hossein Rangani Jahromi

We investigate how to obtain a non-trivial geometric phase gate for a two-qubit spin chain, with Ising interaction in different magnetic fields. Indeed, one of the spins is driven by a time-varying rotating magnetic field, and the other is coupled with a static magnetic field in the direction of the rotation axis. This is an interesting problem both for the purpose of measuring the geometric phases and in quantum computing applications. It is shown that the static magnetic field does not change the adiabatic states of the system, and it does not affect the geometric phases, whereas it may be used to control the dynamic phases. In addition, by considering the exact two-spin adiabatic geometric phases, we find that a non-trivial two-spin unitary transformation, purely based on Berry phases, can be obtained by using two consecutive cycles with opposite directions of the magnetic fields, opposite signs of the interaction constant and the phase shift of the rotating magnetic field. In addition, in the non-adiabatic case, starting with a certain initial state, a cycle can be achieved and thus the Aharonov–Anandan phase is calculated.
