Abstract

Abstract Phase transition of the discrete Laplacian roughening model was investigated on a triangular lattice of various sizes by using the Wang–Landau (WL) Monte Carlo simulation and finite-size scaling analysis of partition-function zeros. The density of states was calculated using the WL method, and the internal energy and specific heat were calculated as a function of temperature. A single transition was observed at T c = 1.855(5) with a new universality class of the correlation exponent ν = 0.70(1) and the specific heat exponent α = 0.60(4). The results were confirmed by the finite size scaling analysis of the first zeros for the partition function. The critical exponents satisfy the scaling relation α = 2 − dν very well.

Monte Carlo study of the phase transitions in 2D ferro- and antiferromagnetic Potts models on a triangular lattice

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev

The phase transitions in 2D ferro- and antiferromagnetic Potts models with number of spin states q = 3 on a triangular lattice are investigated by the cluster and classical Monte Carlo methods. Systems with linear sizes L = 20–120 are considered. Fourth-order Binder cumulants and histogram data analysis are used to show that second- and first-order phase transitions are observed in the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic Potts models, respectively. The static critical indices are calculated for specific heat α, susceptibility γ, magnetization β, and correlation length ν on the basis of finite-size scaling theory for a ferromagnetic Potts model.

Critical Properties in the Ising Model on a Triangular Lattice with the Variable Interlayer Exchange Interaction

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Рамазанов Магомедшейх Курбанович, М. К. Бадиев

Abstract Phase transitions and critical and thermodynamic properties of the three-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model on a layered triangular lattice with variable interlayer exchange interaction are studied by the replica algorithm of the Monte Carlo method. The studies are carried out for the ratios of the intralayer J1 and interlayer J2 exchange interactions in the range of r = J2/J1 = 0.01–1.0. It is established that a second-order phase transition is observed in the considered r interval. Using the finite size scaling theory, the static critical exponents of the heat capacity α, susceptibility γ, order parameter β, correlation radius ν, and Fisher index η are calculated. It is shown that the universality class of the critical behavior of this model is preserved in the interval of 0.05 < r ≤ 1.0. It was found that with a further decrease in the r value, a crossover from the three-dimensional critical behavior to the quasi-two-dimensional one is observed.

Phase transitions and critical properties in the antiferromagnetic Ising model on a layered triangular lattice with allowance for intralayer next-nearest-neighbor interactions

М. К. Бадиев, Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Рамазанов Магомедшейх Курбанович

The phase transitions (PTs) and critical properties of the antiferromagnetic Ising model on a layered (stacked) triangular lattice have been studied by the Monte Carlo method using a replica algorithm with allowance for the next-nearest-neighbor interactions. The character of PTs is analyzed using the histogram technique and the method of Binder cumulants. It is established that the transition from the disordered to paramagnetic phase in the adopted model is a second-order PT. Static critical exponents of the heat capacity (α), susceptibility (γ), order parameter (β), and correlation radius (ν) and the Fischer exponent η are calculated using the finite-size scaling theory. It is shown that (i) the antiferromagnetic Ising model on a layered triangular lattice belongs to the XY universality class of critical behavior and (ii) allowance for the intralayer interactions of next-nearest neighbors in the adopted model leads to a change in the universality class of critical behavior.

Evaluation of an Efficient Monte Carlo Algorithm to Calculate the Density of States

Seung‐Yeon Kim

Phase transitions and critical phenomena are the most universal phenomena in nature. To understand the phase transitions and critical phenomena of a given system as a continuous function of temperature and to obtain the partition function zeros in the complex temperature plane indicating most effectively phase transitions and critical phenomena, we need to calculate the density of states.Currently, Wang-Landau Monte Carlo algorithm is one of the most efficient Monte Carlo methods to calculate the approximate density of states.Using Wang-Landau Monte Carlo algorithm, the density of states for the Ising model on L x L square lattices (L = 4 ~ 32) with periodic boundary conditions is obtained, and the partition function zeros of the Ising model are evaluated in the complex temperature plane.By examining the behavior of the first partition function zero (partition function zero closest to the positive real axis), phase transitions and critical phenomena can be much more accurately analyzed. The approximate first zeros of the Ising ferromagnet, obtained from Wang-Landau algorithm, are quite close to the exact ones, indicating that it is a reliable method for calculating the density of states and the first partition function zeros.

Phase transitions in the two-dimensional ferromagnetic Potts model with the number of spin states q = 3 on a triangular lattice were studied using Monte-Carlo method. The systems of linear size L = 20–120 were considered. Critical properties of 2d disordered 3-state antiferromagnetic potts model ON TRIANGULAR LATTICE

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Albert Babaevich Babaev, G. Ya. Ataeva

By introducing a small amount of non-magnetic impurities into an antiferromagnetic (AF) two-dimensional (2D) Potts model on a triangular lattice it is that the impurities in spin systems described by this model result in the change of a first order to a second-order phase transition. The systems with linear sizes L × L = N, L = 9-144 are considered. Investigations are performed using the standard Metropolis algorithm along with Monte-Carlo single-cluster Wolff algorithm. On the basis of the theory of finite-size scaling, critical exponents (CE) are calculated: the heat capacity α, the susceptibility γ, the order parameter β, and the CE of the correlation radius ν.
