Spin squeezing in nonlinear spin-coherent states

Xiaoguang Wang

We introduce the nonlinear spin-coherent state (SCS) via its ladder operator formalism and propose a type of nonlinear SCS by the nonlinear time evolution of the SCS. By a new version of spectroscopic squeezing criteria we study the spin squeezing in both the SCS and the nonlinear SCS. The results show that the SCS is not squeezed in the x , y and z directions, and the nonlinear SCS may be squeezed in the x and y directions.

Mean spin direction and spin squeezing in superpositions of spin coherent states

Dong Yan, Xiaoguang Wang, Lijun Song +1 more

Abstract We consider the mean spin direction (MSD) of superpositions of two spin coherent states (SCS) | ± μ〉, and superpositions of | μ〉 and | μ*〉 with a relative phase. We find that the azimuthal angle exhibits a π transition for both states when we vary the relative phase. The spin squeezing of the states, and the bosonic counterpart of the mean spin direction are also discussed.

Longitudinal Spin Diffusion in a Nondegenerate Trapped Rb87 Gas

Dorna Niroomand, SD Graham, J. M. McGuirk

Longitudinal spin diffusion of two pseudospin domains is studied in a trapped ^{87}Rb sample above quantum degeneracy, and the effect of coherence in the domain wall on the dynamics of the system is investigated. Coherence in a domain wall leads to transverse-spin-mediated longitudinal spin diffusion that is slower than classical predictions, as well as altering the domains' oscillation frequency. The system also shows an instability in the longitudinal spin dynamics as longitudinal and transverse spin components couple, and a conversion of longitudinal spin to transverse spin is observed, resulting in an increase in the total amount of coherence in the system.
