Influence of the cumulative effect on the excited state absorption spectra obtained with white-light continuum Z-scan

This work reports on the observation of excited state absorption (ESA) cumulative effect of a resonant nonlinear absorber when ESA spectra are obtained through the white-light continuum Z- scan technique. Besides, from the nonlinear transmittance achieved and simulation procedure, assuming a singlet three level system, the ESA cross-section spectrum can obtain if chirp rate and ground state absorption cross-sections are known.

Light-induced states in the transient-absorption spectrum of a periodically pumped strong-field-excited system

Juliane Haug, Stefano M. Cavaletto

The transient-absorption spectrum of a $V$-type three-level system is investigated, when this is periodically excited by a train of equally spaced, $\ensuremath{\delta}$-like pump pulses as, e.g., from an optical-frequency-comb laser. We show that, even though the probe pulse is not assumed to be much shorter than the pump pulses, light-induced states appear in the absorption spectrum. The frequency- and time-delay-dependent features of the absorption spectra are investigated as a function of several laser control parameters, such as the number of pump pulses used, their pulse area, and the pulse-to-pulse phase shift. We show that the frequencies of the light-induced states and the time-delay-dependent features of the spectra contain information on the action of the intense pulses exciting the system, which can thus complement the information on light-imposed amplitude and phase changes encoded in the absorption line shapes.

The effects of squeezed field detunings on probe absorption spectra

Peng Zhou, S. Swain

The effect of detuning on the probe absorption spectra of a two-level system in a squeezed vacuum is investigated, with and without the presence of a classically driven field. For strong squeezing, there is a threshold depending on the squeeze parameter M, which determines the positions and widths of the absorption peaks. For large detunings, the spectra exhibit a close resemblance to Fano spectra and for small detunings there is probe gain. We show that there are marked differences in the spectra between a minimum uncertainty squeezed vacuum and a field state with the maximum classical two-photon correlations . Observation of these features would confirm the essentially quantum-mechanical nature of the squeezed vacuum.
