Abstract

According to the theory of nonlinear Rosen-Zener tunneling, we investigate the nonlinear Ramsey interference of Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential with Gaussian pulse. Rich Ramsey fringes are shown by the numerical simulations. The influences on the fringes of the atom-atom interaction and the period of Gaussian pulse are discussed. We obtain the analytical expression for the fundamental frequency of Ramsey fringes by using Hamilton equation. The relation of the frequency to the interaction strength and the Gaussian-pulse period is found by analyzing the fringes through Fourier transformation. The numerical simulations are consistent with our theoretical predictions.

Nonlinear Ramsey interference on a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate

Sheng-Chang Li, Duan Wen-Shan, 西北师范大学物理与电子工程学院,兰州 730070

Taking Rosen-Zener tunneling as the underlying process,a scheme to achieve nonlinear Ramsey interferometry with a two-component trapped Bose-Einstein condensate is proposed. Abundant nonlinear Ramsey interference fringes are observed in time domain by the numerical simulations and these fringes are very different from the sinusoidal pattern for linear Ramsey interference due to the dominant nonlinear interaction between atoms. Furthermore,Fourier transformation results show that the fundamental frequency of Ramsey fringes can exactly reflect the information of nonlinearity or asymmetry. This finding provides an opportunity to measure atomic properties via measuring the frequency of fringes.

Nonlinear Ramsey interferometry with Rosen-Zener pulses on a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate

Sheng-Chang Li, Libin Fu, Wen‐Shan Duan +1 more

We propose a feasible scheme to realize nonlinear Ramsey interferometry with a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate, where the nonlinearity arises from the interaction between coherent atoms. In our scheme, two Rosen-Zener pulses are separated by an intermediate holding period of variable duration and through varying the holding period we have observed nice Ramsey interference patterns in the time domain. In contrast to the standard Ramsey fringes our nonlinear Ramsey patterns display diversiform structures ascribed to the interplay of the nonlinearity and asymmetry. In particular, we find that the frequency of the nonlinear Ramsey fringes exactly reflects the strength of nonlinearity as well as the asymmetry of system. Our finding suggests a potential application of the nonlinear Ramsey interferometry in calibrating the atomic parameters such as scattering length and energy spectrum.

Nonlinear Rosen-Zener-Stückelberg interferometry of a Bose-Einstein condensate

Sheng-Chang Li, Libin Fu

We adopt a nonlinear two-mode model to investigate the Rosen-Zener-St\"uckelberg (RZS) interferometry of an interacting Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in double-well potential with a periodically modulating barrier. For symmetric potential, we analyze the properties of interference patterns and derive the interference conditions. For asymmetric potential, we explore the resonance structures caused by destructive interference at the weakly coupling limit and obtain the resonance conditions. In particular, we find that the chaotic motions in the asymmetric case with low-frequency modulation, can destroy the formation of interference fringes. In the symmetric case with high-frequency modulation, we see Fano-line-like resonance structures and find that the reso- nance positions exactly correspond to the boundary of macroscopic quantum self-trapping. We show that the nonlinearity can significantly alter both the shape and position of interference fringes and resonance structures. We discuss the experimental feasibility by comparing the solution of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with both the solution of the two-mode model and the truncated Wigner simulation as well. The results suggest important applications of nonlinear RZS interferometry both in precisely controlling the dynamics and in accurately measuring the parameters of interacting many-body systems.

Multi-pulse Ramsey interferometry of a double-well Bose–Einstein condensate in a cavity

Yuxiang Liu, Pei-Sen He, Sheng-Chang Li

Ramsey interferometry as one of the most important high-precision measurement methods has prospects for inferring various properties of ultracold atoms and molecules. We investigate the multi-pulse Ramsey interferometry of a double-well Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) in an optical cavity. Compared with the standard two-pulse Ramsey scheme, our multi-pulse Ramsey proposal greatly relaxes the requirements for both intensity and width of the pulses, allowing the interferometry to be achieved using weak and narrow pulses. When the pumping pulses characterizing the coupling between the cavity field and the atomic BEC are applied to the zero background field, we demonstrate the atomic Ramsey fringes in the time domain for different pulse numbers and different pulse widths. We find that although the multi-pulse Ramsey fringes are no longer sensitive to cavity-pump detuning, they can still record the information of the interaction between coherent atoms. We obtain the fundamental frequency of the multi-pulse Ramsey fringes analytically and find that it is proportional to the number of pulses. Particularly, it is shown that the minimum of the fundamental frequency is exactly the critical point of the phase transition of the system. For a nonzero background field, the results indicate that a nondestructive observation of atomic Ramsey fringes by cavity transmission spectroscopy is feasible. Our findings provide insights for improving the accuracy of Ramsey interferometry and for using interferometry to observe phase transitions.

Nonlinear Ramsey Interferometry of Fermi Superfluid Gases in a Double-Well Potential

Hongjuan Meng, Xueqiang Gou, Wen-Yuan Wang +2 more

The nonlinear Ramsey interferometry of Fermi superfluid gases in a double-well potential is investigated in this paper. We found that the frequency of the Ramsey fringes exactly reflects the strength of nonlinearity, or the scattering length of the Fermi superfluid gases. The cases of sudden limit, the adiabatic limit and the general case are studied. The analytical result is in good agreement with the numerical ones. The adiabatic condition is proposed. In general situation, the zero-frequency point emerge. Finally the possible applications of the theory are discussed.

Tunneling dynamics of Bose—Einstein condensates with higher-order interactions in optical lattice

Lu Tie, Ju-Kui Xue

The nonlinear Landau—Zener tunneling and nonlinear Rabi oscillations of Bose—Einstein condensate (BEC) with higher-order atomic interaction between the Bloch bands in an accelerating optical lattice are discussed. Within the two-level model, the tunneling probability of BEC with higher-order atomic interaction between Bloch bands is obtained. We finds that the tunneling rate is closely related to the higher-order atomic interaction. Furthermore, the nonlinear Rabi oscillations of BEC with higher-order atomic interaction between the bands are discussed by imposing a periodic modulation on the level bias. Analytical expressions of the critical higher-order atomic interaction for suppressing/enhancing the Rabi oscillations are obtained. It is shown that the critical value strongly depends on the modulation parameters (i.e., the modulation amplitude and frequency) and the strength of periodic potential.
