Abstract

By using theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, the stability and the paramagnetism of Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field at low temperatures are studied, and the influences of temperature and magnetic field on the stability and susceptibility of the system are analyzed. The results show that the strong magnetic field causes variation of a system stability, and such a change relates to temperature. While the effects of temperature on stability and susceptibility are relevant to the chemical potential (i.e. the particle number density) of free gas. When the chemical potential is even, the magnetic field weakens the stability of the system, and the increasing of temperature leads to the reduction in the susceptibility of the system. When the chemical potential is odd, the magnetic field strengthens the stability of the system, while the increasing of temperature can increase the susceptibility of the system. With temperature increasing, the effect of the magnetic field on the stability is weakened. With magnetic field increasing, the change of the stability of the system becomes oscillatory, and the oscillation center of the susceptibility shifts down.

The Effect of Temperatures and Magnetic Field on Relativistic Fermi Gas

Men Fu-Dian, Hai-Tang Wang, Wei Shen +1 more

By using the methods of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, the relativistic effects of the thermodynamic properties of Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field are studied, and the influential mechanisms of temperatures and the magnetic field on the relativistic effects of the system are analyzed. It is shown that, at low temperatures, the effects of temperatures on the relativistic effect relate to the chemical potential of the free system. The magnetic field's effects on the relativistic effects of heat capacity and chemical potential display oscillating characteristics. At high temperatures, the relativistic effects of the thermodynamic quantities trigger oscillations with increasing of temperatures and magnetic field, and its amplitude decreases obviously to disappearing with the increasing of temperatures. However, its amplitude increases evidently due to the amplified magnetic field.

Statistic properties of Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field

Men Fu-Dian, Fan Zhao-Lan

Based on the thermodynamic potential function of Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field, using the thermodynamics method, the integrated analytical expressions of thermodynamic quantities of the system at low temperatures are derived, and the effects of the magnetic field on the statistic properties of the system are analysed. It is shown that, as long as the temperature is not zero, the effects of the magnetic field on the thermodynamic quantities of the system contain both oscillatory and non-oscillatory parts. For the non-oscillatory part, compared with the situation of Fermi gas in a weak magnetic field, the influence of the magnetic field on the thermodynamic quantities is not exactly the same. For the oscillatory part, the period and amplitude of the oscillation are all related to the magnetic field. Due to the oscillation, the chemical potential may be greater than Ferim energy of the system, but the oscillation does not affect the thermodynamic stability of the system.

Effects of Temperatures and Particle Number on Pauli Paramagnetism of Fermi Gas

Tian Chen-xi

On the basis of the probability distribution function of particle number, the Pauli paramagnetism of an ideal Fermi gas with finite number of particles is investigated by using a combination of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The analytical expressions of critical value of particle number and upper magnetic field are given and the effects of temperature and particle number on the paramagnetism are analyzed. It is shown that, when the temperature is close towards Fermi temperature, the difference between limit magnetic susceptibility and average magnetic susceptibility decreases. When the temperature is higher than the Fermi temperature, the resulting difference between limit magnetic susceptibility and average magnetic susceptibility increases first and then decreases with the increase of temperature.

Stability of a weakly interacting Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field

Men Fu-Dian, Tian Qing-Song, Chen Xin-Long

Using the quantum statistical theory, the stability of a weakly interacting Fermi gas trapped in a strong magnetic field is investigated, the expression of stability condition is given, and the mechanisms of influences of interparticle interaction and magnetic field on the stability are analyzed. The results show that repulsive interaction will increase both the chemical potential and the space domain needed for system stability. But, the increasing of magnetic field strength will reduce the space domain needed for the system stability, and lower the stability of the particle number density distribution.

Statistics of Fermi Gas in a Strong Magnetic Field at High Temperatures with Quasi-classical Approximations

Jiang Zhou

With quasi-classical approximations, statistic properties of Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field at high temperatures are studied.Analytical statistic characteristic quantities are given, and effects of magnetic field as well as temperature on statistic properties of the system are analyzed.Compared with a system in low temperatures, statistic characteristic quantities of Fermi gas in a strong magnetic field at high temperatures do not oscillate. The magnetic field decreases total energy of the system, and increases the chemical potential, heat capacity, entropy, pressure and stability of the system. The higher the temperature is,the weaker effects of magnetic field on total energy and heat capacity and the stronger effects on chemical potential are.

Effect of anomalous magnetic moment on thermodynamic properties of weakly interacting Fermi gas in weak magnetic field

Chen Xin-Long, Men Fu-Dian, Tian Qing-Song

Taking the anomalous magnetic moment into consideration, the analytical expression of the free energy for a weakly interacting Fermi gas in a weak magnetic field is derived by using the pseudopotential method and thermodynamic theory, therefore the thermodynamic properties can be studied. Based on the derived expression, the thermodynamic properties of this system at both high and low temperatures are given, and the effect of anomalous magnetic moment on thermodynamic properties can be analyzed. The effect of anomalous magnetic moment on the thermodynamic properties is related to temperature, and with the rise of temperature this effect increases in the low temperature zone, but decreases in the high temperature zone. For the chemical potential and internal energy of the system, the anomalous magnetic moment strengthens the influence of the magnetic field, but weakens the influence of the interaction. Under the influence of anomalous magnetic moment, the heat capacity of the system decreases in the low temperature zone, but increases in the high temperature zone.
