Abstract

We exploit inherent randomness in photon number distribution of weak coherent pulses coupled with coincidence detection to perform quantum key distribution. This results in higher key rate over longer distance compared to decoy state protocol.

Enhancing Key Rates of QKD Protocol by Coincidence Detection

Tanya Sharma, Rutvij Bhavsar, Jayanth Ramakrishnan +4 more

Abstract In theory, quantum key distribution (QKD) provides unconditional security; however, its practical implementations are susceptible to exploitable vulnerabilities. This investigation tackles the constraints in practical QKD implementations using weak coherent pulses. The conventional approach of using decoy pulses is improved by integrating it with the coincidence detection (CD) protocol. Additionally, an easy‐to‐implement technique is employed to compute asymptotic key rates for the protocol secure under specific photon number splitting (PNS) attacks. Furthermore, an experimental implementation of the protocol, where it is demonstrated that monitoring coincidences in the decoy state protocol leads to enhanced key rates under realistic experimental conditions, is carried out.

Twin-Field Quantum Key Distribution Protocol with Heralded Single-Photon Source

Xiaopeng Liu, Jiahui Xie, Jia-Le Kang +1 more

Twin-field quantum key distribution (TF-QKD) can overcome the fundamental rate-loss limit in the point-to-point QKD without a quantum repeater and achieve high key rates over long distances. However, TF-QKD protocol and its variants commonly use weak coherent pulses (WCPs) as light sources. The vacuum part of WCP accounts for a large proportion, resulting in the lower photon detection rate of the communication receiver, which leads to a shorter transmission distance of the secret key. In this paper, we propose an active-decoy TF-QKD protocol with heralded single-photon source (HSPS), which can achieve higher key rate and longer transmission distance than the active-decoy TF-QKD protocol with WCPs. Also, in order to resist the side channel attacks caused by actively modulating intensity of the pulses, we propose a passive-decoy TF-QKD protocol with HSPS to enhance the security, which can perform almost as good as the active-decoy TF-QKD protocol with WCPs.

Quantum Key Generation Rate of Decoy State Quantum Key Distribution with Heralded Single-photon Source

Dongxiao Quan

Quantum key generation rate of decoy state quantum key distribution(QKD) with a heralded single-photon source(HSPS) is deduced.Relationship between quantum key generation rate and detection efficiency of sender is discussed.Optimal intensities and key generation rate of decoy state QKD with a weak coherent pulse(WCP) and an HSPS are analyzed. It shows that key generation rate increases with increase of detection efficiency of sender and its security distance is the same as with a perfect single photon source.Decoy state QKD increases security distance and key rate of QKD.Due to less dark counts QKD with HSPS works longer distance than WCP.
