Abstract

Abstract It is shown that the paper ‘The relativistic Aharonov–Bohm–Coulomb system with position-dependent mass’ recently published in this journal has fulcrum on false assertions.

Abstract It is shown that the results of our paper are correct, although the use of the chirality operator γ 5 = σ 1 in the paper is not correct, as fairly the authors of the comment stated.

It is shown that the principal results of a recent work by Khalilov [Phys. Rev. A 71, 012105 (2005)] are in conflict with earlier work of the present author [Phys. Rev. Lett. 64, 503 (1990)] and also with a well known result concerning helicity conservation in a magnetic field. This can be attributed to the fact that Khalilov requires wave function regularity at the origin even when the relevant potential is singular at that point.

A recent attempt to deny the crucial role of inaccessible fields in experiments performed to test the predictions of Aharonov and Bohm is critically discussed. It is shown that these experiments may well be considered to show the reality of the Aharonov-Bohm effect even if it is correct to say that the results are completely determined by the accessible field.
