CONTRACTIONS OF PRODUCT DENSITY OPERATORS OF SYSTEMS OF IDENTICAL FERMIONS AND BOSONS

Abstract

Abstract. Recurrence and explicit formulae for contractions (partial traces) of antisymmetric and symmetric products of identical trace class operators are derived. Contractions of product density operators of systems of identical fermions and bosons are proved to be asymptotically equivalent to, respectively, antisymmetric and symmetric products of density operators of a single particle, multiplied by a normalization integer. The asymptotic equivalence relation is defined in terms of the thermodynamic limit of expectation values of observables in the states represented by given density operators. For some weaker relation of asymptotic equivalence, concerning the thermodynamic limit of expectation values of product observables, normalized antisymmetric and symmetric products of density operators of a single particle are shown to be equivalent to tensor products of density operators of a single particle. This paper presents the results of a part of the author’s thesis [W. Radzki, Kummer contractions of product density matrices of systems of n fermions

Contraction relations for Grassmann products of reduced density matrices and implications for density matrix reconstruction

John M. Herbert, John E. Harriman

We consider, for systems of indistinguishable fermions, approximate reconstruction of the three- and four-particle reduced density matrices (RDMs) from the one- and two-particle RDMs, $\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}$ and $\mathit{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}.$ Our ansatz for reconstructing the four-particle RDM is the linear combination $a(\mathit{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}\ensuremath{\wedge}\mathit{\ensuremath{\Gamma}})+b(\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\wedge}\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\wedge}\mathit{\ensuremath{\Gamma}})+c(\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\wedge}\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\wedge}\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\wedge}\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}}),$ where ``\ensuremath{\wedge}'' denotes the antisymmetrized (Grassmann) product. This is a generalization of reconstruction functionals employed recently to perform direct RDM calculations without wave functions via the contracted Schr\"odinger equation. Here we consider relationships between the parameters a, b, and c that are required in order for the reconstruction functionals to respect the hierarchy of contraction relations between RDMs. To this end we establish several general theorems concerning contractions of antisymmetrized tensor products of $\mathit{\ensuremath{\gamma}},$ $\mathit{\ensuremath{\Gamma}},$ and various products thereof. The accuracy of proposed reconstruction functionals is evaluated using accurate density matrices for the ground state of Be.

Product-vector basis and occupation-number basis in Fock space for bosons and fermions

Boris Leaf

A basis of products of one-particle vectors (symmetric or antisymmetric for bosons or fermions) is defined, and related to the occupation-number basis in an abstract Fock space, a generalization of the wave-mechanical configuration representation of the space of second quantization. Creation and destruction operators are simply defined in the product-vector basis and shown to have their usual properties in occupation-number representation. Algebraic properties of product vectors are developed and illustrated. The representation of operators in the product-vector basis is described, together with a brief discussion of the effects on these operators of transformations from one set of one-particle vectors to another. A simple treatment of density and reduced density operators for systems of bosons or fermions is given in the product-vector basis. The relationship between degeneracy in the Fock-space spectrum of an additive operator NA1 and degeneracy in the spectrum of one-particle operator A1 is obtained.

Reduced density matrix of nonlocal identical particles

Seungbeom Chin, Joonsuk Huh

We probe the theoretical connection among three different approaches to analyze the entanglement of identical particles, i.e., the first quantization language (1QL), elementary-symmetric/exterior products (which has the mathematical equivalence to no-labeling approaches), and the algebraic approach based on the GNS construction. Among several methods to quantify the entanglement of identical particles, we focus on the computation of reduced density matrices, which can be achieved by the concept of \emph{symmetrized partial trace} defined in 1QL. We show that the symmetrized partial trace corresponds to the interior product in symmetric and exterior algebra (SEA), which also corresponds to the subalgebra restriction in the algebraic approach based on GNS representation. Our research bridges different viewpoints for understanding the quantum correlation of identical particles in a consistent manner.

A reduction relation for an n-body trace of an operator product consisting of coupled C+’s and C’s

Masao Nomura

A reduction relation for the trace of an operator product consisting of C+’s and C’s is derived in the truncated space of n fermions or n bosons being distributed over definite orbits. The state operator formalism (derived in a preceding paper) is fully used so as to perform normal ordering (or contraction) of coupled C+’s and C’s in the operator string with the least destruction of the preexisting coupling.
