Belavkin Filtering with Squeezed Light Sources

Abstract

We derive the filtering equation for Markovian systems undergoing ho-modyne measurement in the situation where the output processes being monitored are squeezed. The filtering theory applies to case where the system is driven by Fock noise (that, quantum input processes in a co-herent state) and where the output is mixed with a squeezed signal. It also applies to the case of a system driven by squeezed noise, but here there is a physical restriction to emission/absorption coupling only. For the special case of a cavity mode where the dynamics is linear, we are able to derive explicitly the filtered estimate pit(a) for the mode annihilator a based on the homodyne quadrature observations up to time t. In memory of Slava Belavkin. 1

Quantum Filtering for Squeezed Noise Inputs

John Gough, Dylon Rees

We derive the quantum filter for a quantum open system undergoing quadrature measurements (homodyning) where the input field is in a general quasi-free state. This extends previous work for thermal input noise and allows for squeezed inputs. We introduce a convenient class of Bogoliubov transformations which we refer to as balanced and formulate the quantum stochastic model with squeezed noise as an Araki-Woods type representation. We make an essential use of the Tomita-Takesaki theory to construct the commutant of the C*-algebra describing the inputs and obtain the filtering equations using the quantum reference probability technique. The derived quantum filter must be independent of the choice of representation and this is achieved by fixing an independent quadrature in the commutant algebra.

Quantum Trajectories for Squeezed Input Processes: Explicit Solutions

Anita Magdalena Dąbrowska, John Edward Gough

We consider the quantum (trajectories) filtering equation for the case when the system is driven by Bose field inputs prepared in an arbitrary non-zero mean Gaussian state. The a posteriori evolution of the system is conditioned by the results of a single or double homodyne measurements. The system interacting with the Bose field is a single cavity mode taken initially in a Gaussian state. We show explicit solutions using the method of characteristic functions to the filtering equations exploiting the linear Gaussian nature of the problem.

Continuous-Mode MultiPhoton Filtering

H. T. Song, Guofeng Zhang, Zhihua Xi

The purpose of this paper is to derive filters for an arbitrary open quantum system driven by a light wave packet prepared in a continuous-mode multiphoton state. A continuous-mode multiphoton state is a state of a traveling light wave packet that contains a definite number of photons and is characterized by a temporal (or, equivalently, spectral) profile. After the interaction with the system, the outgoing light can be monitored by means of homodyne detection or photodetection. Filters for both measurement schemes are derived in this paper. Unlike the vacuum or the coherent state case, the annihilation operator of the light field acting on a multiphoton state changes the state by annihilating a photon, and this makes the traditional filtering techniques inapplicable. To circumvent this difficulty, we adopt a non-Markovian embedding technique proposed in [J. E. Gough, M. R. James, and H. I. Nurdin, Quantum Inf. Process., 12 (2013), pp. 1469--1499] for the study of the single-photon filtering problem. However, the multiphoton nature of the problem addressed in this paper makes the study much more mathematically involved. Moreover, as demonstrated by an example---a two-level system driven by a continuous-mode two-photon state---multiphoton filters can reveal interesting strong nonlinear optical phenomena absent in both the single-photon state case and the continuous-mode Fock state case.
