Quantum mutual entropy for Jaynes-Cummings model

Abstract

The dynamics of an atom on the Jaynes-Cummings model has been studied by an atomic inversion, von Neumann entropy and so on. In this letter, we will treat the Jaynes-Cummings model as a problem in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and apply quantum mutual entropy to study the irreversible dynamics of a state for the atom on this model.

Quantum-mechanical channel for Jaynes-Cummings model and its analysis by means of informations

Shigeru Furuichi, Hiroki Suyari, Kunio Oshima +1 more

The behavior of atoms in the Jaynes–Cummings model has been discussed and analyzed extensively to date in terms of transition probability and entropy. In this paper, the Jaynes–Cummings model is described in terms of a quantum-mechanical channel expressing the state transition. For this channel, von Neumann entropy and quantum mutual entropy are derived. By means of these quantities, the variation of the atomic state and its nonreciprocity in this model are discussed. © 2000 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 3, 84(1): 95–103, 2001

Relationship between the linear entropy, the von Neumann entropy and the atomic Wehrl entropy for the Jaynes-Cummings model

Faisal A. A. El-Orany

The linear entropy, the von Neumann entropy and the atomic Wehrl entropy are frequently used to quantify entanglement in the quantum systems. These relations provide typical information on the entanglement in the Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM). In this Letter, we explain the origin of this analytically and derive a closed form for the atomic Wehrl entropy. Moreover, we show that it is more convenient to use the Bloch sphere radius for quantifying entanglement in the JCM instead of these entropic relations.

Entropy studies for the damped and the undamped Jaynes-Cummings model

F. Farhadmotamed, A. J. van Wonderen, K. Lendi

On the basis of a representation in terms of photon-number states we derive an analytically solvable set of ordinary differential equations for the matrix elements of the density operator belonging to the Jaynes-Cummings model. We allow for atomic detuning, spontaneous emission, and cavity damping, but we do not take into account the presence of thermal photons. The exact results are employed to perform a careful investigation of the evolution in time of atomic inversion and von Neumann entropy. A factorization of the initial density operator is assumed, with the privileged field mode being in a coherent state. We invoke the mathematical notion of maximum variation of a function to construct a measure for entropy fluctuations. In the undamped case the measure is found to increase during the first few revivals of Rabi oscillations. Hence, the influence of the surroundings on the atom does not decrease monotonically from time zero onwards. A further non-Markovian feature of the dynamics is given by the strong dependence of our measure on the initial atomic state, even for times at which damping brings about irreversible decay. For weak damping and high initial energy density the atomic evolution exhibits a crossover between quasireversible revival dynamics and irreversible Markovian decay. During this stage the state of maximum entropy acts as an attractor for the trajectories in atomic phase space. Subsequently, all trajectories follow a unique route to the atomic ground state, for which the off-diagonals of the atomic density matrix equal zero. From our entropy studies one learns what kind of difficulties must be overcome in establishing formulae for entropy production, the use of which is not limited to semigroup-induced dynamics.

QUANTUM MECHANICAL CHANNEL AND QUANTUM MUTUAL ENTROPY IN THE TWO-PHOTON JAYNES-CUMMINGS MODEL

Mao-Fa Fang

We have studied the dynamics of the two\|photon Jaynes\|Cummings model (TPJCM) by using the quantum information theory, given the quantum mechanical channel representing the state change of atom, derived the quantum mutual entropy and reduced entropy of the atom, and examined the effects of the phase coherence of initial cavity field and the Stark shift of atomic levels on the quantum mutual entropy in the TPJCM. It is shown that quantum mutual entropy \{evolves\} periodically, quantum mechanical channel transmits periodically the information of atomic initial state to its final states, and quantum mechanical channel and mutual entropy are also dependent on the phase coherence of initial cavity field and on the Stark shift of atomic levels.

The dynamics of the two_photon Jaynes_Cummings model with atomic motion are studied by using the quantum information theory, and the quantum echanical channel representing the state change of atom is given; the quantum mutual entropy and reduced entropy of the atom are derived. The influences of the atomic motion and the field structure on the quantum mutual entropy are examined. It is shown that the properties of quantum mechanical channel are strongly dependent on the atomic motion, the field model structure, and the entanglement between the atom and the field.
