Bulk and Boundary S Matrices for the SU(N) Chain

Abstract

We consider both closed and open integrable antiferromagnetic chains constructed with the SU(N)-invariant R matrix. For the closed chain, we extend the analyses of Sutherland and Kulish-Reshetikhin by considering also complex ``string'' solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations. Such solutions are essential to describe general multiparticle excited states. We also explicitly determine the SU(N) quantum numbers of the states. In particular, the model has particle-like excitations in the fundamental representations [k] of SU(N), with k = 1, ..., N-1. We directly compute the complete two-particle S matrices for the cases [1] X [1] and [1] X [N-1]. For the open chain with diagonal boundary fields, we show that the transfer matrix has the symmetry SU(l) X SU(N-l) X U(1), as well as a new ``duality'' symmetry which interchanges l and N - l. With the help of these symmetries, we compute by means of the Bethe Ansatz for particles of types [1] and [N-1] the corresponding boundary S matrices.

Analytical Bethe Ansatz for quantum-algebra-invariant spin chains

Luca Mezincescu, Rafael I. Nepomechie

We have recently constructed a large class of open quantum spin chains which have quantum-algebra symmetry and which are integrable. We show here that these models can be exactly solved using a generalization of the analytical Bethe Ansatz (BA) method. In particular, we determine in this way the spectrum of the transfer matrices of the Uq[su(2)]-invariant spin chains associated with A1(1) and A2(2) in the fundamental representation. The quantum-algebra invariance of these models plays an essential role in obtaining these results. The BA equations for these open chains are “doubled” with respect to the BA equations for the corresponding closed chains.

Duality and quantum-algebra symmetry of the A−1(1) open spin chain with diagonal boundary fields

Anastasia Doikou, Rafael I. Nepomechie

We show that the transfer matrix of the AN−1(1) open spin chair with diagonal boundary fields has the symmetry Uq(SU(l)) × Uq(SU(N−l)) × U(1), as well as a “duality” symmetry which maps l ↔ N − l. We exploit these symmetries to compute exact boundary S-matrices in the regime with q real.

A complete Bethe ansatz solution for the open spin-s XXZchain with general integrable boundary terms

L. Frappat, Rafael I. Nepomechie, E. Ragoucy

We consider the open spin- s XXZ quantum spin chain with N sites and general integrable boundary terms for generic values of the bulk anisotropy parameter, and for values of the boundary parameters which satisfy a certain constraint. We derive two sets of Bethe ansatz equations, and find numerical evidence that together they give the complete set of (2 s +1) N eigenvalues of the transfer matrix. For the case of s = 1, we explicitly determine the Hamiltonian, and find an expression for its eigenvalues in terms of Bethe roots.

Integrable quantum spin chains

Anastasia Doikou

Integrable quantum spin chains are exactly solvable quantum mechanical models of N quantum spins, of which the Heisenberg model solved by Bethe is the prototype. In the antiferromagnetic regime, such spin chains can be regarded as lattice versions of corresponding integrable relativistic quantum field theories. For integrable spin chains, quantities of physical interest (spectrum, S matrix, etc.) can be calculated exactly by direct means, starting from the microscopic Hamiltonian, while for the corresponding field theories, such exact information has been primarily obtained by indirect means, such as the “ bootstrap ” approach and semiclassical approximations. We have been focused basically on the Heisenberg XXX and XXZ chains and their generalizations. Basic aims of this work were the study of the symmetries of these models and the computation, by means of Bethe ansatz equations, of the bulk and boundary S matrices for the closed and open chains respectively...

The spectrum of quantum-group-invariant transfer matrices

Rafael I. Nepomechie, Ana L. Retore

Integrable open quantum spin-chain transfer matrices constructed from trigonometric R-matrices associated to affine Lie algebras g ˆ , and from certain K-matrices (reflection matrices) depending on a discrete parameter p , were recently considered in arXiv:1802.04864 and arXiv:1805.10144 . It was shown there that these transfer matrices have quantum group symmetry corresponding to removing the p th node from the g ˆ Dynkin diagram. Here we determine the spectrum of these transfer matrices by using analytical Bethe ansatz, and we determine the dependence of the corresponding Bethe equations on p . We propose formulas for the Dynkin labels of the Bethe states in terms of the numbers of Bethe roots of each type. We also briefly study how duality transformations are implemented on the Bethe ansatz solutions.
