Abstract

We study local quenches in 1+1 dimensional conformal field theories at large-c by operators carrying higher spin charge. Viewing such states as solutions in Chern-Simons theory, representing infalling massive particles with spin-three charge in the BTZ background, we use the Wilson line prescription to compute the single-interval entanglement entropy (EE) and scrambling time following the quench. We find that the change in EE is finite (and real) only if the spin-three charge q is bounded by the energy of the perturbation E, as vertical bar q vertical bar/c < E-2/c(2). We show that the Wilson line/EE correlator deep in the quenched regime and its expansion for small quench widths overlaps with the Regge limit for chaos of the out-of-time-ordered correlator. We further find that the scrambling time for the two-sided mutual information between two intervals in the thermo field double state increases with increasing spin-three charge, diverging when the bound is saturated. For larger values of the charge, the scrambling time is shorter than for pure gravity and controlled by the spin-three Lyapunov exponent 4 pi/beta. In a CFT with higher spin chemical potential, dual to a higher spin black hole, we find that the chemical potential must be bounded to ensure that the mutual information is a concave function of time and entanglement speed is less than the speed of light. In this case, a quench with zero higher spin charge yields the same Lyapunov exponent as pure Einstein gravity.

Aspects of time dependence in quantum quenches

Surbhi Khetrapal

In this thesis we study the time dependence of correlators such as Green function, entanglement (Renyi) entropy and mutual information following quantum quench in Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) and their holographic duals (AdS). We develop a new recursive method to analytically study the thermalization of retarded Green function in CFTs holographically dual to thin shell AdS Vaidya space times. Using this method, analytic results for short time thermalization of the Green function are obtained; its long time behaviour is obtained by implementing this method numerically. This method is also used to study the late time behaviour of the minimally coupled scalar in AdS3 Vaidya and the shear vector mode in AdS5 Vaidya. Studying the latter, we obtain the universal ratio of the shear viscosity to entropy density from a time dependent process. We study the time evolution of single interval Renyi and entanglement entropies following local quantum quenches in CFTs at finite temperature for which the locally excited states have a finite temporal width. We show that the time dependence of Renyi and entanglement entropies, at second order in width, is universal and is determined by the expectation value of the stress tensor in the replica geometry. We study local quenches in two dimensional CFT at large central charge by operators carrying higher spin charge. The holographic description is used to obtain the single interval entanglement entropy, mutual information and scrambling time following the quench. We find that the change in entanglement entropy is finite (and real) only if the spin-three charge, q, is bounded by the energy of the perturbation, E, as |q|/c < E^2/c^2. For larger values of the spin-three charge, the scrambling time is shorter than for pure gravity and controlled by the spin-three Lyapunov exponent.

Universal corrections to entanglement entropy of local quantum quenches

Justin R. David, Surbhi Khetrapal, S. Prem Kumar

We study the time evolution of single interval Rényi and entanglement entropies following local quantum quenches in two dimensional conformal field theories at finite temperature for which the locally excited states have a finite temporal width ϵ. We show that, for local quenches produced by the action of a conformal primary field, the time dependence of Rényi and entanglement entropies at order ϵ2 is universal. It is determined by the expectation value of the stress tensor in the replica geometry and proportional to the conformal dimension of the primary field generating the local excitation. We also show that in CFTs with a gravity dual, the ϵ2 correction to the holographic entanglement entropy following a local quench precisely agrees with the CFT prediction. We then consider CFTs admitting a higher spin symmetry and turn on a higher spin chemical potential μ. We calculate the time dependence of the order ϵ2 correction to the entanglement entropy for small μ, and show that the contribution at order μ 2 is universal. We verify our arguments against exact results for minimal models and the free fermion theory.

Higher spin entanglement entropy at finite temperature with chemical potential

Bin Chen, Jie-qiang Wu

It is generally believed that the semiclassical AdS3 higher spin gravity could be described by a two dimensional conformal field theory with $$ \mathcal{W} $$ -algebra symmetry in the large central charge limit. In this paper, we study the single interval entanglement entropy on the torus in the CFT with a $$ {\mathcal{W}}_{\mathcal{3}} $$ deformation. More generally we develop the monodromy analysis to compute the two-point function of the light operators under a thermal density matrix with a $$ {\mathcal{W}}_{\mathcal{3}} $$ chemical potential to the leading order. Holographically we compute the probe action of the Wilson line in the background of the spin-3 black hole with a chemical potential. We find exact agreement.

Entanglement and chaos in warped conformal field theories

Luis Apolo, He, S., Song, W. +2 more

Various aspects of warped conformal field theories (WCFTs) are studied including entanglement entropy on excited states, the Renyi entropy after a local quench, and out-of-time-order four-point functions. Assuming a large central charge and dominance of the vacuum block in the conformal block expansion, (i) we calculate the single-interval entanglement entropy on an excited state, matching previous finite temperature results by changing the ensemble; and (ii) we show that WCFTs are maximally chaotic, a result that is compatible with the existence of black holes in the holographic duals. Finally, we relax the aforementioned assumptions and study the time evolution of the Renyi entropy after a local quench. We find that the change in the Renyi entropy is topological, vanishing at early and late times, and nonvanishing in between only for charged states in spectrally-flowed WCFTs.

Scrambling time from local perturbations of the rotating BTZ black hole

Andrius Štikonas

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the entanglement entropy of the rotating BTZ black hole perturbed by a massive back-reacting free falling particle. Then, mutual information between two finite intervals in two asymptotic regions of rotating BTZ is derived. It allows us to find the scrambling time, the time scale in which mutual information vanishes. We give a dual large c CFT description in terms of a thermofield double state with different temperatures for left and right moving modes that is perturbed by a local operator. Exact matching between gravity and CFT results is obtained.
