A general formula for the canonical partition function for a parastatistical system of any order is derived. The formula expresses the canonical partition functions for these in terms of sums of Schur functions. The only hitherto known result due to Suranyi [Phys. Rev. Lett. 65, 2329 (1990)] for parasystems of order two is obtained as a special case. Our results apply not only to parastatistics but to all statistics that can be defined on the basis of the permutation group, including those for which no simple definition in terms of the algebra of creation and annihilation operators is possible. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
We study exclusion statistics within the second quantized approach. We consider operator algebras with positive definite Fock space and restrict them in a such a way that certain state vectors in Fock space are forbidden ab initio. We describe three characteristic examples of such exclusion, namely exclusion on the base space which is characterized by states with specific constraint on quantum numbers belonging to base space M (e.g. Calogero-Sutherland type of exclusion statistics), exclusion in the single-oscillator Fock space, where some states in single oscillator Fock space are forbidden (e.g. the Gentile realization of exclusion statistics) and a combination of these two exclusions (e.g. Green's realization of para-Fermi statistics). For these types of exclusions we discuss extended Haldane statistics parameters g, recently introduced by two of us in Mod.Phys.Lett.A 11, 3081 (1996), and associated counting rules. Within these three types of exclusions in Fock space the original Haldane exclusion statistics cannot be realized.
In the context of Lie (super)algebras of type A , generalized quantum statistics is considered. For sl ( n + 1) this is A-statistics, and for sl (1 |n ) this is A-superstatistics. The creation and annihilation operators, their triple relations, and their Fock spaces are given. We consider a ‘free’ Hamiltonian and some macroscopic properties are studied : the grand partition function, average number of particles, etc. Symmetric functions play a role in expressions for these thermodynamical quantities.
Parastatistics is an exotic type of exchange statistics beyond fermions and bosons. Paraparticles transform in higher dimensional representations of the exchange symmetry group, analogous to non-Abelian anyons, yet consistently defined in any dimension. Although paraparticles have long been proposed, they were widely believed to be physically equivalent to fermions or bosons. Nevertheless, a recent paper proposed a different theory, called
R-parastatistics, and demonstrated that nontrivial
R-paraparticles can emerge as quasiparticles in condensed matter systems, and are observably distinct from both fermions and bosons. This paper develops the theoretical foundation and several extensions of
R-parastatistics, with particular emphasis on its observable consequences. Central to this paper is a general theory of local observables extending the basic family introduced before. First, we define local observables that distinguish particle types. Second, we formulate local observables at special point defects that probe the internal indices of
R-paraparticles, crucial for observing
R-parastatistics and for the proposed applications in quantum information. Third, we introduce local observables that create or annihilate particle-antiparticle pairs, important for building a relativistic quantum field theory for
R-paraparticles. We further introduce generalized hidden symmetries that act on internal indices of
R-paraparticles while preserving the local observable algebra, providing a basis for proving local indistinguishability and for connecting to a categorical description of
R-paraparticles. This work sets a solid theoretical foundation for understanding the fundamental physical properties of
R-paraparticles and pave the way for finding them in nature.
