Abstract

We propose a new method for exact analytical calculation of the ground-state energy of the Ising spin glass on strips. An outstanding advantage of this method over the numerical transfer matrix technique is that the energy is obtained for complex values of the probability describing quenched randomness. We study the $\pm J$ and the site-random models using this method for strips of various sizes up to $5\times\infty$. The ground-state energy of these models is found to have singular points in the complex-probability plane, reminiscent of Lee-Yang zeros in the complex-field plane for the Ising ferromagnet. The $\pm J$ Ising model has a series of singularities which may approach a limiting point around $p \sim 0.9$ on the real axis in the limit of infinite width.

Ground-State Energy of a Frustrated ±J Ising Model on a Strip of Squares

M. Błaszyk, B. Fechner

We investigated a ±J Ising model on an infinite strip of squares of the width of one and two bonds with a random distribution of ferro-and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. The exact ground-state energy as a function of the concentration of antiferromagnetic bonds was derived and its singular points in the complex-plane were found.

Griffiths singularity in quasi-one-dimensional restricted ±J Ising spin glass

Fateme Izadi, Reza Sepehrinia

We obtain the exact ground-state energy of the quasi-one-dimensional restricted ±J Ising spin glass in a uniform magnetic field using the transfer matrix method. Magnetic field dependence allows us to derive the magnetization as a function of concentration and magnetic field. It turns out that, in the limit of zero field, the magnetization tends to a nonzero value with a singular dependence on the magnetic field. We derive the explicit form of the singularity in thermodynamic quantities such as energy E≃E_{0}+m_{0}h+E_{1}e^{-h_{0}/h}, which is an essential singularity known as Griffiths singularity. We confirm our analytical results using the numerical approach based on iterative equations for energy.

Specific Heat Singularity in Two-Dimensional Random Ising Ferromagnets

Dietrich Stauffer, Fabio D. A. Aarao Reis, S. L. A. de Queiroz +1 more

We use transfer-matrix methods to calculate free energies and specific heats on long, finite-width strips of Ising spins with randomly distributed ferromagnetic couplings. By implementation of our code on a highly parallel computer, we have managed to generate high-quality data for strip widths up to L = 18 sites. An unequivocal trend towards a divergency of the specific heat in the thermodynamic limit can be discerned. Finite-size data appear to behave halfway between a single- ( ln L) and double- ( ln ln L) logarithmic dependence on strip width. This is in line with a crossover within the Dotsenko-Shalaev picture of logarithmic corrections to pure-system singularities.

Finite-size scaling analysis of exact ground states for ± J spin glass models in two dimensions

Naoki Kawashima, Heiko Rieger

With the help of exact ground states obtained by a polynomial algorithm we compute the domain wall energy Δ at zero temperature for the bond-random and the site-random Ising spin glass model in two dimensions. We find that in both models the stability of the ferromagnetic and the spin glass order ceases to exist at a unique concentration p c for the ferromagnetic bonds. In the vicinity of this critical point, the size and concentration dependence of the first and second moment of the domain wall energy are, for both models, described by a common finite-size scaling form. Moreover, below this concentration the stiffness exponent turns out to be slightly negative, θ S = − 0.056(6), indicating the absence of any intermediate spin glass phase at non-zero temperature.
