Symmetric Hilbert spaces arising from species of structures

Abstract

Symmetric Hilbert spaces such as the bosonic and the fermionic Fock spaces over some `one particle space' K are formed by certain symmetrization procedures performed on the full Fock space. We investigate alternative ways of symmetrization by building on Joyal's notion of a combinatorial species. Any such species F gives rise to an endofunctor F of the category of Hilbert spaces with contractions mapping a Hilbert space K to a symmetric Hilbert space F (K) with the same symmetry as the species F . A general framework for annihilation and creation operators on these spaces is developed, and compared to the generalised Brownian motions of R. Speicher and M. Bo _ zejko. As a corollary we nd that the commutation relation a i a j a j a i = f(N) ij with Na i a i N = a i admits a realization on a symmetric Hilbert space whenever f has a power series with infinite radius of convergence and positive coefficients.

Marcelo Fiore

Abstract A categorical axiomatic theory of creation/annihilation operators on symmetric Fock space is introduced, and the combinatorial model that motivated it is presented. Commutation relations and coherent states are considered in both frameworks.

Klauder-Bargmann Integral Representation of Gaussian Symmetries and Generating Functions of Gaussian States

Tiju Cherian John, Kalyanapuram Rangachari Parthasarathy

Let $\Gamma(\mathcal{H})$ be the boson Fock space over a finite dimensional Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$. It is shown that every gaussian symmetry admits a Klauder-Bargmann integral representation in terms of coherent states. Furthermore, gaussian symmetries, gaussian states and second quantization contractions, all of these operators belong to a weakly closed, selfadjoint semigroup $\mathcal{E}_2(\mathcal{H})$ of bounded operators in $\Gamma(\mathcal{H})$. This yields, a new parametrization of gaussian states, which is a very fruitful alternative to the customary parametrization by position-momentum mean vectors and covariance matrices. This leads to a rich harvest of corollaries: (i) every gaussian state $\rho$ admits a factorization $\rho = Z_{1}^{\dagger}Z_{1}$, where $Z_{1}$ is an element of $\mathcal{E}_2(\mathcal{H})$ and has the form $Z_{1} = \sqrt{c}\Gamma(\sqrt{\Lambda})\exp{\sum_{r=1}^{n} \lambda_ra_r+\sum_{r,s=1}^{n} \alpha_{rs}a_{r}a_{s}}$ on the dense linear manifold generated by all exponential vectors, $\Lambda$ being a positive operator in $\mathcal{H}$, $a_{r}, 1\leq r \leq n$ are the annihilation operators corresponding to the $n$ different modes in $\Gamma(\mathcal{H})$, $\lambda_r\in \mathbb{C}$ and $[\alpha_{rs}]$ is a symmetric matrix in $M_n(\mathbb{C})$; (ii) an explicit particle basis expansion of an arbitrary mean zero pure gaussian state vector along with a density matrix formula for a general gaussian state in terms of its $\mathcal{E}_2(\mathcal{H})$-parameters; (iii) an easy test for the entanglement of pure gaussian states and a class of examples of pure $n$-mode gaussian states which are completely entangled; (iv) tomography of an unknown gaussian state in $\Gamma(\mathbb{C}^n)$ by the estimation of its $\mathcal{E}_2(\mathbb{C}^n)$-parameters using $O(n^2)$ measurements with a finite number of outcomes.

Quantum Stochastic Calculus

Mou-Hsiung Chang

This chapter begins with introductions of symmetric Fock space Γ(ℍ) and symmetric Guichardet space Φ(ℍ) of a generic complex Hilbert space ℍ. It is shown that these 2 spaces are actually isomorphic and can and will be used interchangeably throughout the chapter. In particular, the simple and yet useful integral-summation formula (see Theorem (3.2.1)) for the Guichardet space is often employed to establish the essential results in quantum stochastic calculus. It has been shown that the symmetric Fock space (and hence the symmetric Guichadet space) provides a plausible mathematical tool for modeling phenomena in quantum optics or quantum electrodynamics. Many results in the quantum physics and quantum probability literature are actually established based on this concrete model space. When the generic complex Hilbert space ℍ = L 2 (ℝ + ; K) (where K is another complex Hilbert space), the class of exponential vectors along with 3 different types of quantum noise processes, namely, the creation, annihilation, and neutral (or guage) processes, can be introduced. It is shown that the subspace generated by the class of exponential vectors is dense in the Fock space. Therefore, it is convenient to verify the properties that hold for Fock space by verifying the same hold for the class of exponential vectors. Parallel to those of Itô integrals with respect to classical Brownian motion and/or Poisson process, the concepts of a quantum stochastic integral of a operator-valued process (as a member of the Fock space) with respect to each of the above mentioned quantum noise processes are constructed. The quantum stochastic calculus, parallel to those of classical Itô calculus, is developed. The theory of quantum stochastic calculus on the symmetric Fock space due originally to Hudson and Parthasarathy [HP84a] has been the topic of investigation by many researchers in the last 20 years. Much of he material presented in this chapter can be found in the books by Meyer [Mey95], Parthasarathy [Par92] and Attal [Att03].

Annihilation and creation operators in Lie algebra theory and physics

Kateřina JARKOVSKÁ

We show the use of the theory of Lie algebras, especially their oscillator realizations, in the context of quantum mechanics. One can construct oscillator realizations from matrix realizations. In the case of symplectic and special orthogonal algebra, we demonstrate an alternative method of obtaining oscillator realizations from symmetric or exterior power of a vector space of annihilation and creation bosonic or fermionic operators. We find Lie algebra of polynomials of degree at most two in phase space of a mechanical system, which form the semi-direct product of the Heisenberg algebra and symplectic algebra. It is shown that a classical system with Hamiltonian function in this algebra can be quantized by two equivalent representations - Schrödinger or Bargmann-Fock representation. The second mentioned representation generates the same operators of symplectic algebra as we got from their previous formal construction from symmetric power of a vector space of bosonic operators. Quantization is demonstrated on the bosonic harmonic oscillator. We use the similarities between bosonic and fermionic oscillator realizations to define the fermionic harmonic oscillator. Some properties of spinor representations of special orthogonal algebra are illustrated on its state space. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Generalized boson and fermion operators with a maximal total occupation property

Nedialka I. Stoilova, Joris Van Der Jeugt

Abstract We propose a new generalization of the standard (anti-)commutation relations for creation and annihilation operators of bosons and fermions. These relations preserve the usual symmetry properties of bosons and fermions. Only the standard (anti-)commutator relation involving one creation and one annihilation operator is deformed by introducing fractional coefficients, containing a positive integer parameterp. The Fock space is determined by the classical definition. The new relations are chosen in such a way that the total occupation number in the system has the maximum valuep. From the actions of creation and annihilation operators in the Fock space, a group theoretical framework is determined, and from here the correspondence with known particle statistics is established.

Exponential Hilbert Space: Fock Space Revisited

John R. Klauder

An exponential Hilbert space, which is an abstraction of the familiar Fock space for bosons, provides a natural framework to discuss a wide class of field-operator representations. This framework is especially convenient when wide invariance groups, such as a unique translationally invariant state, are involved. In this paper, we develop the theory of exponential Hilbert spaces in a functional fashion suitable to discuss representations of field operators enjoying such invariance features. Representations of both current algebras and canonical field operators are discussed, and it is shown that these representations are natural generalizations of those characterizing infinitely divisible random processes. Questions of reducibility and equivalence are treated, and we prove that our construction gives rise to infinitely many unitarily inequivalent representations. Nevertheless, an extremely simple expression, bilinear in annihilation and creation operators, abstractly characterizes the operators of both the current algebras and canonical fields. Dynamical applications to quantum field theory will be treated in subsequent papers.
