A note on the time evolution of generalized coherent states

Abstract

I consider the time evolution of generalized coherent states based on non-standard fiducial vectors, and show that only for a restricted class of fiducial vectors does the associated classical motion determine the quantum evolution of the states. I discuss some consequences of this for path integral representations.

Weak Coherent States and their Path Integrals

Lorenz Hartmann

Weak coherent states share many properties of the usual coherent states, but do not admit a resolution of unity expressed in terms of a local integral. They arise e.g. in the case that a group acts on an inadmissible fiducial vector. Motivated by the recent Affine Quantum Gravity Program, the present work studies the path integral representation of the affine weak coherent state matrix elements of the unitary time-evolution operator. Since weak coherent states do not admit a resolution of unity, it is clear that the standard way of constructing a path integral, by time slicing, is predestined to fail. Instead, a well-defined path integral with Wiener measure, based on a continuous-time regularization, is used to approach this problem. The dynamics is rigorously established for linear Hamiltonians, and the difficulties presented by more general Hamiltonians are addressed.

A new class of coherent states and it's properties.

Abdlgader Mohamed

The study of coherent states (CS) for a quantum mechanical system has \nreceived a lot of attention. The definition, applications, generalizations of \nsuch states have been the subject of work by researchers. A common starting \npoint of all these approaches is the observation of properties of the original \nCS for the harmonic oscillator. It is well-known that they are described \nequivalently as (a) eigenstates of the usual annihilation operator, (b) from \na displacement operator acting on a fundamental state and (c) as minimum \nuncertainty states. What we observe in the different generalizations proposed \nis that the preceding definitions are no longer equivalent and only some of \nthe properties of the harmonic oscillator CS are preserved. \nIn this thesis we propose to study a new class of coherent states and \nits properties. We note that in one example our CS coincide with the ones \nproposed by Glauber where a set of three requirements for such states has \nbeen imposed. The set of our generalized coherent states remains invariant \nunder the corresponding time evolution and this property is called temporal \nstability. Secondly, there is no state which is orthogonal to all coherent states (the coherent states form a total set). The third property is that we \nget all coherent states by acting on one of these states [¿fiducial vector¿] with \noperators. They are highly non-classical states, in the sense that in general, \ntheir Bargmann functions have zeros which are related to negative regions of \ntheir Wigner functions. Examples of these coherent states with Bargmann \nfunction that involve the Gamma and also the Riemann ¿ functions are represented. \nThe zeros of these Bargmann functions and the paths of the zeros \nduring time evolution are also studied.

On the Dynamics of Generalized Coherent States. I. Exact and Stable Evolution

Blagovest A. Nikolov, D. A. Trifonov

The exact and stable evolutions of generalized coherent states (GCS) for quantum systems are considered by making use of the time-dependent integrals of motion method and of the Klauder approach to the relationship between quantum and classical mechanics. It is shown that one can construct for any quantum system overcomplete family of states (OFS), related to the unitary representations of the Lie group G by means of integral of motion generators, and the possibility of using this group as a dynamical symmetry group is pointed out. The relation of the OFS with quantum measurement theory is also established.
