Abstract

Using results from conformal field theory, we compute several universal amplitude ratios for the two-dimensional Ising model at criticality on a symmetric torus. These include the correlation-length ratio x* = lim(L-->infinity) xi(L)/L and the first four magnetization moment ratios V-2n = [M-2n]/[M-2](n). As a corollary we get the first four renormalized 2n-point coupling constants for the massless theory on a symmetric torus, G(2n)*. We confirm these predictions by a high-precision Monte Carlo simulation.

Tensor Renormalization Group Calculations of Partition-Function Ratios

Satoshi Morita, Naoki Kawashima

The behavior of dimensionless quantities defined as ratios of partition functions is analyzed to investigate phase transitions and critical phenomena. At criticality, the universal values of these ratios can be predicted from conformal field theory (CFT) through the modular-invariant partition functions on a torus. We perform numerical calculations using the bond-weighted tensor renormalization group for three two-dimensional models belonging to different universality classes: the Ising model, the three-state Potts model, and the four-state Potts model. The partition-function ratios obey the same finite-size scaling form as the Binder parameter, and their critical values agree well with the universal values predicted by CFT. In the four-state Potts model, we observe logarithmic corrections in the system-size dependence of these ratios.

Universal amplitude ratios in the three-dimensional Ising model

Michele Caselle, Martin Hasenbusch B

We present a high precision Monte Carlo study of various universal amplitude ratios of the three-dimensional Ising spin model. Using state of the art simulation techniques we study the model close to criticality in both phases. Great care is taken to control systematic errors due to finite size effects and correction to scaling terms. We obtain , and . Our results are compatible with those obtained by field theoretic methods applied to the theory and high- and low-temperature series expansions of the Ising model. The mismatch with a previous Monte Carlo study by Ruge et al remains to be understood.

Universal amplitude ratios from numerical studies of the three-dimensional O(2) model

Attilio Cucchieri A, Engels, Jürgen, Sven Holtmann +2 more

We investigate the three-dimensional 0 (2) model near the critical point by Monte Carlo simulations and calculate the major universal amplitude ratios of the model. The ratio U-0 = A(+)/A(-) is determined directly from the specific heat data at zero magnetic field. The data do not, however, allow us to extract an accurate estimate for a. Instead, we establish a strong correlation of U0 with the value of a used in the fit. This numerical a-dependence is given by A(+)/A(-) = 1 - 4.20(5)alpha + O(alpha(2)). For the special alpha-values used in other calculations, we find full agreement with the corresponding ratio values, e.g. that of the shuttle experiment with liquid helium. On the critical isochore, we obtain the ratio 0.293(9), and on the critical line the ratio xi(T)(C) / xi(L)(C) = 1.957(10) for the amplitudes of the transverse and longitudinal correlation lengths. These two ratios are independent of the alpha- or v-values used here.

Universal amplitude ratios of the renormalization group: Two-dimensional tricritical Ising model

Davide Fioravanti A, Giuseppe Mussardo, Pascal Simon

The scaling form of the free energy near a critical point allows for the definition of various thermodynamical amplitudes and the determination of their dependence on the microscopic nonuniversal scales. Universal quantities can be obtained by considering special combinations of the amplitudes. Together with the critical exponents they characterize the universality classes and may be useful quantities for their experimental identification. We compute the universal amplitude ratios for the tricritical Ising model in two dimensions by using several theoretical methods from perturbed conformal field theory and scattering integrable quantum field theory. The theoretical approaches are further supported and integrated by results coming from a numerical determination of the energy eigenvalues and eigenvectors of off-critical systems in an infinite cylinder.

The critical Ising model on a torus with a defect line

Armen Poghosyan, Ralph Kenna, N. Sh. Izmailian

The critical Ising model in two dimensions with a specific defect line is analyzed to deliver the first exact solution with twisted boundary conditions. We derive exact expressions for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix and obtain analytically the partition function and the asymptotic expansions of the free energy and inverse correlation lengths for an infinitely long cylinder of circumference L x . We find that finite-size corrections to scaling are of the form a k / L x 2 k − 1 for the free energy f and b k ( p ) / L x 2 k − 1 and c k ( p ) / L x 2 k − 1 for inverse correlation lengths ξ p − 1 and ξ L − p − 1 , respectively, with integer values of k . By exact evaluation we find that the amplitude ratios b k ( p ) / a k and c k ( p ) / a k are universal and verify this universal behavior using a perturbative conformal approach.

Universal amplitude ratios from numerical studies of the three-dimensional O(2) model

We investigate the three-dimensional O(2) model near the critical point by Monte Carlo simulations and calculate the major universal amplitude ratios of the model. The ratio U_0=A+/A- is determined directly from the specific heat data at zero magnetic field. The data do not, however, allow to extract an accurate estimate for alpha. Instead, we establish a strong correlation of U_0 with the value of alpha used in the fit. This numerical alpha-dependence is given by A+/A- = 1 -4.20(5) alpha + O(alpha^2). For the special alpha-values used in other calculations we find full agreement with the corresponding ratio values, e. g. that of the shuttle experiment with liquid helium. On the critical isochore we obtain the ratio xi+/xi-_T=0.293(9), and on the critical line the ratio xi_T^c/xi_L^c=1.957(10) for the amplitudes of the transverse and longitudinal correlation lengths. These two ratios are independent of the used alpha or nu-values.
