Correlations in the impenetrable electron gas

Abstract

We consider non-relativistic electrons in one dimension with infinitely strong repulsive delta function interaction. We calculate the long-time, large-distance asymptotics of field-field correlators in the gas phase. The gas phase at low temperatures is characterized by the ideal gas law. We calculate the exponential decay, the power law corrections and the constant factor of the asymptotics. Our results are valid at any temperature. They simplify at low temperatures, where they are easily recognized as products of free fermionic correlation functions with corrections arising due to the interaction. Time and Temperature Dependent Correlation Functions of the One-Dimensional Impenetrable Electron Gas

We consider the one-dimensional delta-interacting electron gas in the case of infinite repulsion. We use determinant representations to study the long time, large distance asymptotics of correlation functions of local fields in the gas phase. We derive differential equations which drive the correlation functions. Using a related Riemann–Hilbert problem we obtain formulae for the asymptotics of the correlation functions, which are valid at all finite temperatures. At low temperatures these formulae lead to explicit asymptotic expressions for the correlation functions, which describe power law behavior and exponential decay as functions of temperature, magnetic field and chemical potential.

Universal correlations of one-dimensional electrons at low density

Frank Göhmann

We summarize results on the asymptotics of the two-particle Green functions of interacting electrons in one dimension.Below a critical value of the chemical potential the Fermi surface vanishes, and the system can no longer be described as a Luttinger liquid.Instead, the non-relativistic Fermi gas with infinite point-like repulsion becomes the universal model for the long-wavelength, low temperature physics of the one-dimensional electrons. This model, which we call the impenetrable electron gas, allows for a rigorous mathematical treatment. In particular, a so-called determinant representation for the two particle Green function could be derived. This determinant representation is related to an integrable classical evolution equation and to a Riemann-Hilbert problem, that enable the exact calculation of the asymptotics of the two-particle Green functions.

One-dimensional impenetrable anyons in thermal equilibrium: III. Large distance asymptotics of the space correlations

Ovidiu I Pâţu, V. E. Korepin, D. V. Averin

Using the determinant representation for the field-field correlation functions of impenetrable anyons at finite temperature obtained in a previous paper, we derive a system of nonlinear partial differential equations completely characterizing the correlators. The system is the same as the one for impenetrable bosons but with different initial conditions. The large-distance asymptotic behavior of the correlation functions is obtained from the analysis of the Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with the system of differential equations. We calculate both the exponential and pre-exponential factors in the asymptotics of the field-field correlators. The asymptotics derived in this way agree with those of the free fermions and impenetrable bosons in the appropriate limits, $κ\to 1$ and $κ\to 0$, of the statistics parameter $κ$, and coincide with the predictions of the conformal field theory at low temperatures.

Zero temperature correlation functions for the impenetrable fermion gas

Vadim Cheianov, Mikhail B. Zvonarev

We calculate the long time and distance asymptotics of the one-particle correlation functions in the model of impenetrable spin 1/2 fermions in 1 + 1 dimensions. We consider the spin disordered zero temperature regime, which occurs when the limit T → 0 is taken at a positive chemical potential. The asymptotic expressions are found from the asymptotic solution of the matrix Riemann–Hilbert problem related to the determinant representation of the correlation functions.

Large-distance asymptotic behavior of the correlation functions of 1D impenetrable anyons at finite temperatures

O. I. Pâţu, V. E. Korepin, D. V. Averin

The large-distance asymptotic behavior of the field-field correlators has been computed for one-dimensional impenetrable anyons at finite temperatures. The asymptotic behavior agrees with the predictions of conformal field theory at low temperatures and reproduces the known results for impenetrable bosons and free fermions in appropriate limits. We have also obtained an integrable system of partial nonlinear differential equations which completely characterizes the 2-point correlation functions. The system is the same as for bosons but with different initial conditions.

Correlation functions of one-dimensional strongly interacting two-component gases

Ovidiu I. Pâţu

We address the problem of calculating the correlation functions of one-dimensional two-component gases with strong repulsive contact interactions. The model considered in this paper describes particles with fractional statistics and in appropriate limits reduces to the Gaudin-Yang model or the spinor Bose gas. In the case of impenetrable particles we derive a Fredholm determinant representation for the temperature-, time-, and space-dependent correlation functions which is very easy to implement numerically and constitutes the starting point for the analytical investigation of the asymptotics. Making use of this determinant representation and the solution of an associated Riemann-Hilbert problem we derive the low-energy asymptotics of the correlators in the spin-incoherent regime characterized by near ground-state charge degrees of freedom but a highly thermally disordered spin sector. The asymptotics present features reminiscent of spin-charge separation with the spin part exponentially decaying in space separation and oscillating with a period proportional to the statistics parameter, while the charge part presents scaling with anomalous exponents which cannot be described by any unitary conformal field theory. The momentum distribution and the Fourier transform of the dynamical Green's function are asymmetrical for arbitrary statistics, a direct consequence of the broken space-reversal symmetry. Due to the exponential decay the momentum distribution $n(k)$ at zero temperature does not present algebraic singularities but the tails obey the universal decay ${lim}_{k\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ensuremath{\infty}}n(k)\ensuremath{\sim}C/{k}^{4}$ with the amplitude $C$ given by Tan's contact. As a function of the statistics parameter the contact is a monotonic function reaching its minimum for the fermionic system and the maximum for the bosonic system.
