One-point functions in perturbed boundary conformal field theories

Abstract

We consider the one-point functions of bulk and boundary fields in the scaling Lee-Yang model for various combinations of bulk and boundary perturbations. The one-point functions of the bulk fields are analysed using the truncated conformal space approach and the form-factor expansion. Good agreement is found between the results of the two methods, though we find that the expression for the general boundary state given by Ghoshal and Zamolodchikov has to be corrected slightly. For the boundary fields we use thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations to find exact expressions for the strip and semi-infinite cylinder geometries. We also find a novel off-critical identity between the cylinder partition functions of models with differing boundary conditions, and use this to investigate the regions of boundary-induced instability exhibited by the model on a finite strip.

One-point functions in massive integrable QFT with boundaries

Márton Kormos, Balázs Pozsgay

We consider the expectation value of a local operator on a strip with non-trivial boundaries in 1+1 dimensional massive integrable QFT. Using finite volume regularisation in the crossed channel and extending the boundary state formalism to the finite volume case we give a series expansion for the one-point function in terms of the exact form factors of the theory. The truncated series is compared with the numerical results of the truncated conformal space approach in the scaling Lee-Yang model. We discuss the relevance of our results to quantum quench problems.

Evaluation of correlation functions in integrable quantum field theories

James Brian Silk

The aim of this thesis is to explore correlation functions in two dimensional quantum field theories in two distinct ways. In part I a new method for calculating the differential equations parametrising the correlation functions of twist fields associated with the U (1) symmetry of the Dirac model is presented. While developing this method a new family of descendent twist fields are identified and their form factors calculated. This provides a novel way of calculating the vacuum expectation values of the primary twist fields and is shown to be entirely consistent with known results. The method of calculating the correlation functions of twist fields provides a parametrisation of several other correlation functions for various quantum states. Since this method relies on the Ward identities found in a double copy model it is hoped to have wider applications in other free fermion models. Part II concerns the truncated conformal space approach which has been developed to approximate perturbed conformal field theories. In this part the theory underpinning the approach is discussed and a working algorithm is developed for both bulk and boundary perturbed minimal models. The energy levels, mass gaps and one point functions of various models are computed using the truncated conformal space approach and are shown to be in good agreement with previous calculations. A possible method for using this approach to approximate two point functions in perturbed conformal field theories is discussed.

Finite volume form factors in the presence of integrable defects

Zoltán Bajnok, Francesco Buccheri, László Holló +2 more

We developed the theory of finite volume form factors in the presence of integrable defects. These finite volume form factors are expressed in terms of the infinite volume form factors and the finite volume density of states and incorporate all polynomial corrections in the inverse of the volume. We tested our results, in the defect Lee–Yang model, against numerical data obtained by truncated conformal space approach (TCSA), which we improved by renormalization group methods adopted to the defect case. To perform these checks we determined the infinite volume defect form factors in the Lee–Yang model exactly, including their vacuum expectation values. We used these data to calculate the two point functions, which we compared, at short distance, to defect CFT. We also derived explicit expressions for the exact finite volume one point functions, which we checked numerically. In all of these comparisons excellent agreement was found.

<!--HTML-->I give an introduction the Truncated Conformal Space Approach, which was originally invented by Yurov and Zamolodchikov in the framework of the scaling Lee-Yang model. Since then it has become a very powerful tool to study not only finite volume spectra, but also form factors, resonances, phase transitions and renormalization group flows in one-dimensional quantum field theories, both integrable and non-integrable. Its scope has been extended to theories with boundaries and impurities, and also generalized to settings beyond perturbed conformal field theories. In this talk, beyond explaining the basics of the approach I also give a brief overview of the recently introduced renormalization methods to deal with cut-off dependence, which led to a major improvement in precision and also widened the potential scope of applications.
