Theoretical study on optical bistability switching based on photoisomerization reverse saturable absorption of azobenzene molecules

Hui Wang

The characteristic of optical bistability switching of azobenzene molecules is discussed.First,we compute the coefficient of reverse saturable absorption based on the model of photoisomerization of azobenzene molecules.Second,we simulate and compute the process of bistability switching based on reverse saturable absorption. The result shows that the reverse saturable absorption based on photoisomerization of azobenzene molecules can realize full optical switches of bistability. We also discusse the Trans isomer σT,the Cis isomer σC and the thermal constant K to the optical bistability influence.

Intrinsic optical bistability via switching between saturable and reverse saturable absorption

Seyed Morteza Mousavi, Mohammad Mahmoudi

We present a novel approach to achieving intrinsic optical bistability and multistability through the interplay between saturable and reverse saturable absorption. Our findings reveal that the stable points on the optical bistability curve align with the switching points of intensity-dependent nonlinear absorption. By analyzing the optical properties of a four-level cascade quantum system, we demonstrate that these switching behaviors can be triggered by applying laser fields to induce nonlinear absorption. Furthermore, we propose a comprehensive model to describe the intensity-dependent nonlinear absorption within this quantum system. Finally, it is shown that the optical bistability switches to the multistability when the detuning of applied fields exceeds the multi-photon resonance condition.

Mechanism of stochastic switching in single-atom absorptive bistability

Jie Wu, Hideo Mabuchi

We analyze a single-atom cavity QED model to isolate the dynamic mechanism of stochastic switching between regions of state space associated with mean-field attractors of absorptive bistability. We present evidence from simulations that such switching is correlated with variations in the timings of atomic spontaneous emission events, and we interpret this finding in terms of the dynamics of the coupled intracavity field and atomic dipole. Somewhat surprisingly, both upward and downward (in intracavity photon number) switching transitions may be induced by rapid succession of several atomic emissions. Based on our results we propose an implementation of bidirectional ``toggle'' control for a single-atom optical latch.
