Dissipative dynamics of an entangled three-qubit system via non-Hermitian Hamiltonian: Its correspondence with Markovian and non-Markovian regimes

Abstract

We investigate an entangled three-qubit system in which only one of the qubits experiences the decoherence effect by considering a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, while the other two qubits are isolated, i.e., do not interact with environment, directly. Then, the time evolution of the density matrix (for the pure as well as mixed initial density matrix) and the corresponding reduced density matrices are obtained, by which we are able to utilize the dissipative non-Hermitian Hamiltonian model with Markovian and non-Markovian regimes via adjusting the strange of the non-Hermitian term of the total Hamiltonian of the under-considered system.

Coherence and entanglement in non-Markovian dynamics of qubits

Cristian E. Susa, John Henry Reina

We provide a thorough analysis of the entanglement dynamics of an interacting two-qubit system in the non-Markovian regime. In such a regime, the time scale on which the reservoir degrees of freedom evolve is either of the same order of magnitude or less than that on which the system evolves. We used an exact numerical method; the Quasi-Adiabatic Path Integral (QUAPI) technique, to describe the corresponding qubit dissipative dynamics in such a non-Markovian regime. We computed the time evolution of the density operator for the quibits, from which we quantified the coherences and population dynamics, as well as the qubit-bath coupling effects. Using negativity as a metric, we calculated the dynamics of non-local quantum correlations (entanglement), and indentified a non-Markovian quantum phenomena in terms of early stage disentanglement, and the collapse and revival of entanglement.

Non-Markovian qubit dynamics in nonequilibrium environments

Xiang-Ji Cai

We theoretically study the non-Markovian dynamics of qubit systems coupled to nonequilibrium environments with nonstationary and non-Markovian statistical properties. The reduced density matrix of the single qubit system satisfies a closed third-order differential equation with all the higher-order environmental correlations taken into account and the reduced density matrix of the two qubit system can be expressed as the Kraus representation in terms of the tensor products of the single qubit Kraus operators. We derive the relation between the entanglement and nonlocality of the two qubit system which are both closely associated with the decoherence function. We identify the threshold values of the decoherence function to ensure the existences of the concurrence and nonlocal quantum correlations for a given evolution time when the two qubit system is initially prepared in the composite Bell states and the extended Werner states, respectively. It is shown that the environmental nonstationary feature can suppress the decoherence and disentanglement dynamics and can reduce the coherence and entanglement revivals in non-Markovian dynamics regime. In addition, it is shown that the environmental non-Markovian feature can enhance the coherence revivals in the single decoherence dynamics and the entanglement revivals in the two qubit disentanglement dynamics, respectively. Furthermore, the environmental nonstationary and non-Markovian features can enhance the nonlocality of the two qubit system.

NON-HERMITIAN QUANTUM DYNAMICS OF A TWO-LEVEL SYSTEM AND MODELS OF DISSIPATIVE ENVIRONMENTS

Alessandro Sergi, Konstantin G. Zloshchastiev

We consider a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian in order to effectively describe a two-level system (TLS) coupled to a generic dissipative environment. The total Hamiltonian of the model is obtained by adding a general anti-Hermitian part, depending on four parameters, to the Hermitian Hamiltonian of a tunneling TLS. The time evolution is formulated and derived in terms of the normalized density operator of the model, different types of decays are revealed and analyzed. In particular, the population difference and coherence are defined and calculated analytically. We have been able to mimic various physical situations with different properties, such as dephasing, vanishing population difference and purification.

On the qubits dynamics in random matrix environment

E. N. Bratus’, Leonid Andreevich Pastur

We consider the entanglement evolution of two qubits embedded into disordered multiconnected environment. We model the environment and its interaction with qubits by large random matrices allowing for a possibility to describe environments of meso-and even nanosize. We obtain general formulas for the time dependent reduced density matrix of the qubits corresponding to several cases of the qubit-environment interaction and initial condition. We then workout an analog of Born-Markov approximation to find the evolution of the widely used entanglement quantifiers: the concurrence, the negativity and the quantum discord. We show that even in this approximation the time evolution of the reduced density matrix can be non-Markovian, thereby describing certain memory effects due to the backaction of the environment on qubits. In particular, we find the vanishing of the entanglement at finite moments and its subsequent revivals (entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth). Our results, partly known and partly new, can be viewed as a manifestation of the universality of certain properties of decoherent qubit evolution which have been found previously in various versions of bosonic macroscopic environment.

Time dependent entanglement properties, and other quantum-information aspects, of two-qubits systems interacting with an environment

Alpha Hamadou Ibrahim

Quantum systems usually suffer from unavoidable interactions with the environment. In most experiments, it is virtually impossible to isolate the system under study from the environment. It is thus imperative to study and understand how quantum systems interact with their surroundings. In the present study, I consider the evolution of quantum entanglement in a two-qubit system interacting with an environment in a regime where the non-Markovian effects are important. The present thesis is organized as follows: Chapter one is a general introduction to the thesis. In chapter two, some preliminary concepts that will be used in the subsequent chapters will be introduced and defined. These concepts include qubits, density matrix, Quantum entanglement and Entropic measures in quantum information. Ways to detect or quantify entanglement in a quantum system will also be discussed in the section on quantum entanglement. Chapter three will be about open quantum systems in general: concepts like master equations, Markovian quantum systems and non-Markovian quantum systems will be briefly reviewed. Chapter four will deal with time dependent entanglement features of two-qubit and multi-qubit systems interacting with an environment, basically all the results obtained in my study will be presented there. Some general conclusions will be drawn in chapter five. Copyright
